Because Democrats loved to own slaves. So owning another human is empowering to them. Of course once the Republicans set all the slaves free, the modern dems have to settle for illegal slave labor, thats why they are so upset that once again the Republicans are taking that away.

I do not imagine it is very empowering to be a democrat. after getting spanked in the last election and polling at record lows they have stood on the sidelines over the last year while President Trump ran circles around them. They hare really the irrelevant party.
