Most people have come to know "homeless" actually means drug addicts who prefer to devote any money they get to buying drugs instead of housing and shit in the street. So sympathy evaporates.

"Unhoused" has the implication that the unhoused person was pushed out of a house rather than a deliberate decision to not have housing & spend on drugs instead.

Recently my Left gov't started talking about "Affordable housing". That sounds positive, making it easier for young people to buy a house doesn't it?

For what it's worth, in precise language (where German has an advantage) there is actually a difference between homeless and houseless: Homeless describes a person living on the streets. Houseless describes a person without a permanent shelter.

Not all the time, in some cases, life has just taken a huge steaming shit on them and they can't afford to stay where they were or it was abruptly taken away from them by nefarious assholes.
I nearly became one of those 6 years ago and am still in danger of it again in the near future!!
The print shop I was working in for 11 years moved somewhere too far away for me to get to so, I found another one a few blocks from my house. Worked there for nearly 2 years before they went out of business. By this time, mom was in need of a lot of help and I was the only one willing to give it to her! Before she died, she changed her Will so that I get the house! Once my greedy ex-sisters found out, they took me to court over it and I lost the house and they sold it!!
Luckily, my aunt decided to take me in because I took care of her sister (mom) but, she, STUPIDLY mortgaged this house to give MORE money to the scammers that ripped her off for millions!! Then, she died a few weeks later flat broke and now, I'M stuck with trying to pay the mortgage, now that I can't afford it and there's a fairly good chance I'm gonna lose THIS house, soon, too!! If that happens, I have NOWHERE TO GO!!! I'LL become homeless!!

They claimed that she was on drugs when she signedf the Wil and that wwe forced her to do it! Neither was true and there was no way I could prove it but, the only way they could prove it was because her writing was so terrible but, in the first place, she used her right hand instead of her left and, by this time, days before she died, her muscles were so atrophied that she could barely lift the t. v. remote anymore!! The ONLY thing they gave her was half a child's dose of morphine SECONDS before she signed the Will!!
Also, some fucking ashole that I WAS friends with in high school was given charge of the estate and, acting like he was stil my buddy, we went through the house and he took a number of pictures inside but ONLY where there was a bit of clutter, which was a small room on the 3rd floor, another on the 2nd floor but ONLY on the bed, a tiny corner on top of a desk in this huge dining room and the corner in the basement where my dad and brother built shelves and then my brother loaded it was all kinds of absurd junk that he dragged home from a dumpster years before!! Then, in court, he made it look like the entire house was like that making ME out to be some kind of fucking pig!!! SOME of the clutter was only like that because I was in the middle of several recording projects and there was no point in me putting all those records away if I was gonna be using them again in a few weeks.
