democrats always make up names for things that are really bad to make it sound like they are really good. Like the "Affordable Healthcare Act" or the "Inflation Reduction Act" that really do just the opposite. Free Range people is just their way of saying that there really is no homeless problem.

Mark Twain once wrote that there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics. Evidently, the nineteenth century was a more honest time, because in the twentieth, we added a fourth category: euphemisms.

Make no mistake, homelessness is a problem for all of us: the medical costs from exposure alone are WAY more than it would take to simply build cheap Section 8 housing for all these people. But aside from the fact that many of them have drug addictions AND/or serious mental problems, it's far more accurate to speak of the problems of homelessness than the problEM; just housing them isn't going to help if they tear the place apart.

But beyond even that, finding a set of solutions is hard, funding that set of solutions is trickier, but selling that the voter base? Let's say you're a lower-middle class person, struggling to make enough money to pay the mortgage, and then you get told that the government is going to raise YOUR taxes to build housing for homeless people. Yeah, YOU get stuck with the bill for the projects to hold the screaming street lunatics, who will of course not have to pay for it. How would YOU feel?

That said, this euphemism fulfills the function of all euphemisms: to make a situation seem far less dire than it is and dehumanize its victims, so the guilty don't suffer pangs of conscience for their sins and the innocent don't question why the guilty are doing what they're doing.

Must have something to do with The Human Meat Project. If you need to vomit for some reason look it up. Homeless people would be the ideal human meat. Nobody looking for them, or the abductors could just say the homeless person moved on.

Basically, they are. I've heard someone a few days ago call them, "feral people", whatever that means.

@FunkyMonkee well, they call the kitty cats that don't live in a home with people a feral cat - because it lives outside in the wilderness and has to forage for food and water. They are wild too. They don't go near people if they don't have to. You can drop off food to them, then just leave it there for them to go get it after you leave.
I never liked the word homeless! In the old days we called them bums or hobos which is even worse.
This whole homeless situation makes me so sad. A lot of them aren't all there mentally and they need the help from people who can help them. But as a social worker once told me "Some people love living under the stars".

Well, homeless means exactly that, they have no homes. The difference between that and bums or hobos is that homeless people are that way because they've been kicked out of their homes and/or because they've not been able to find a job to give them money to pay their bills. Bums and hobos, on the other hand either refuse to find work or are just too lazy to bother.
Some are just pretending to be poor. They sit on the streets begging for money but they can ALWAYS find money to buy cigarettes!! Even the salvation Army will tell you NOT to give them money because they're only going to use it for drugs and booze!
I used to work at a 7-11 and there was always this black kid in his mid to late 20's standing outside our door begging money from anyone he held the our door open for!! We called him, "Dreads" because he had dreadlocks, very nicely taken care of expensive-looking dreadlocks!! He dressed fairly well and he hardly ever wore the same things two days in a row, he had very expensive sneakers and, sometimes, I'd see him pushing a 10 to 21-speed bike around! There, there was this girl in her early 20's, I guess, who would always sit on the corner downtown begging money and she always had 5 or 6 kittens frolicking around her! If she's begging money on the street every day, how is she feeding those kittens? I worked the graveyard shift and the doughnut guy would come in about 4:00 a. m. with fresh doughnuts and throw out the day-old stuff which, as far as I'm concerned, was still good so, I'd take them and either eat them myself once I got home or feed them to the birds in my back yard. I passed kitten girl on the street one morning on my way home from work and offered the doughnuts to her. She refused them!! How hungry can you be if you're going to refuse a free meal? A few years later, I read that someone killed her!!

There's also these groups of college age kids wandering around begging on the streets. They tend to have punk style hair cuts which probably cost them a pretty penny, they always dress in drab brown and grey clothes with holes in them, but EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM has a dog with them and can afford cigarettes!!

Ooooh yes!! I've seen those kinds of people!!
I would say she was killed in the late `90's or early `00's. Most likely the `90's because I started working at the 7-11 in `94 and was there until early `96. I'd say it was maybe 2 to 5 years after I offered her the doughnuts. That would've been `95 or early `96.
I have no idea if they found her killer. It was in the local paper that she was killed. If her killer was found, I'm sure it would've shown up in the paper.
A friend of mine talked me into getting on it about 20 years ago so, I did. She said I could talk to anybody on there. So, I looked up Harry Houdini!! I found several people claiming to be Houdini so, I just brushed the whole thing off as total bullshit and never went back. Well, at least 3 years ago, I went back on for a few minutes but, that's it.
