They are a collection of people who were hired for merit instead of checking a box. Marco Rubio is doing a great job and so is Pete Hegseth. Sean Duffy is restoring the Air Traffic controller system and Lee Zeldin is also doing a great job.
I think he made a mistake hiring a lightweight like Pam Bondi as AG. The AG position is one of the most important jobs in Washington. She was clearly not up to the job. He should have called her out after 90 days to get some indictments. Then he should have fired her.

@cherrytreeblossom He was about the only diplomat who has had super star status in his time. Certainly he had top academic credentials in his career at Harvard. If academics are bright and if academics at Harvard are among the best Then you have to accord him a best and brightest label.

Kissinger was in the realpolitik school. You can argue that is commonsense or evil. Like he argued Ukraine should have taken one for the team which I categorically reject.

Realpolitik can get nasty. But with 20-20 hindsight we'd probably agree it would have been better to apply Real Politik to Hitler.

I'd agree with you on Allende but then there have been various dictators that should have been off'ed but weren't because they were on the right side :) (:. Ukraine is kinda a good case.

There is a good moral case that this group of people should be allowed to continue as a country despite Putin seeing them as Little Russians and not a real country. There is a good case for Europe not to create a fuss with Russia (as kissinger suggested). Equally with realpolitik there is a good case to prevent Russia from resuming USSR satellite countries.

Sadly we can only see what was the right response after the dust has settled. If Russia had of steamrolled Ukraine and ended up on the borders of EU/Nato countries broiling for a fight we'd think arming Ukraine was a bad idea.
