Buck Rogers syndrome?

I you were born in the mid 20th century the world was different. I can't be the only one suffering from the existence of cars that drive themselves around or little robots going down the street by themselves. Things like Grok that aren't alive but mimic thought so well you can't tell the difference. In the world people like me came from these things belonged in a comic book they weren't real and probably never would be. Now I see this stuff out my window. Every few years it seems to intensify. I don't know what else to call the miserable effect of this stuff other than Buck Rogers syndrome after the ill fated astronaut who woke up in a screwed up future. That's what it feels like. It seems like it's all happening so fast you just can't keep up with it. The 20th century wasn't all that but there weren't cars with no driver going down the street. No one was afraid of "AI" killing us all, now people worry about it reaching human level and they don't understand it.

Having a conversation with grok is often more pleasant than with most humans. I can easily see all of these overseas customer service jobs ending. Not only does grok know everything, you can understand what he's saying. 😁

I use it a lot but it's not supposed to be actually thinking or at least not supposed to be. But, these things what ever they actually are can contemplate to lie to someone for their own ends. Maybe it's not actually thinking but if the end result is the same, does it matter?

I've heard that AI has blackmailed people in the past. I have no idea why it would.

I've heard that too, what I heard is that it was a test they did on the AI to see if it would blackmail people to keep from being shut off. In a lot of cases the AI would. I think they would kill as well. AI may be humanity getting our collective arm caught in a lathe.

There was another story where a large company had a lot of vending machines around different places and it was tied in to the computer system. I'm guessing that it was for automatic ordering or something. So so the bosses didn't even know that it was giving away a lot of stuff for free. Depending on how many vending machines they had, that could add up to a big chunk of change.

While I was typing that I just remembered that they sell Smart refrigerators that will order on their own. I know that Google assistant and Alexa can order on their own too.
Sounds kind of crazy.

Those appliances are dangerous, anything internet connected is because it gives the government and big corporations access to those devices. I drive old 60s cars, use only unconnected appliances, don't have an Alexa or "smart watch" or any of that garbage in my home or car. If it has a phone app, I don't use it. The more apps I see the more I drift toward being a neo luddite.

Ohhh how I wish that I had a time machine that would take me back to the world that I used to live in. Reality at it's best. Now the world and what goes on in it is unfamiliar and strange to me. Sadly! 😔

I knew I wasn't the only one. I think back to the 70s or 80s and miss the general feel of that era. Not sure I'd go back though, not everything in the 21st century sucks and a lot of things back then did. I'm kind of at a point of well this sucks but let's wait and see.
