It is a cycle. Remember how the USA started. The colonists came to N America to avoid aristocracy and a Kings who did not regard the opinion of his subjects. That is why the Bill of Rights was formed and ultimately the Constitution written. But people forget and soon the democracies fall to corruption. Some Megalomaniac convinces them to think that their troubles are due to one social group and that HE can fix it. Somehow he convinces them to give up the very thing that gave them the power to control their future. Next step Communism, That usually falls within 50 years and the cycle starts again. We have been very fortunate to have lasted this long. Most democracies fall within 150 years. Money does not talk, it swears.
When democratically elected political systems become apathetic, that paves the way to dictatorship and royalty.

History shows that, over the past few centuries, the number of dictatorships has decreased while the number of democracies has increased. There's no reason why that trend will not continue, unless someone comes up with a system that's better than democracy.
For the nonce, the former, but hopefully youngsters worldwide can band together to restore, then improve democracy.
An democratic countries get overrun by third world's masses, so democracy is falling.
