It’s not “official” in that no declaration of war was codified. But multiple strikes sustained over a period of time definitely indicates more than a solitary military action.
For the record, the ignorant crybabies whining about “no declaration of war” are hypocrites. They’re only mad because Drumpf is involved. The US hasn’t officially declared war since WW2, but we’ve been in a near constant state of involvement in military occupations and conflicts for half a century. When THEIR presidents do it, they love military action. When the other team’s president does it, it’s a war crime.

Military operation is just a term used instead of the word war. Just like Russia describes the Ukraine war as a Special Military operation or the US described the Vietnam War as a policing operation.

Unless Iranian rebels really join in the fight, Russia or China get involved in some way, or unless there's a major escalation this is just a weapons show.

My guess is Iran is pacing itself. It's has been threatened with regime change. But that is unlikely to happen without American boots on the ground. So for the next few weeks we're probably just going to see tit for tat. And Trump will probably declare Iran disarmed, de-nuclearized, he'll claim victory and send Amrican forces home, or to a holding pattern.

It's yet to be seen. So far it's just a military operation. It's really up to the Iranian people. This is something a lot of them have been wanting for decades. But they still have a lot of opposition, and that will continue pretty much forever. My guess is that there will still be some military action, but I don't think it will go on for long.

While President Donald Trump announced the start of "major combat operations" in Iran on February 28, 2026, he has not officially declared war. Under the U. S. Constitution, only Congress has the authority to issue a formal declaration of war.
