Genghis Khan also used this tactic in the countries he occupied to frighten and divide the people to ensure their surrender.

same flawed strategy they've used now for 50-60 years. arm a militia to do the work we can't and then when they want power we disavow and make enemies of them... I mean this is literally move from a 50 year old playbook that has failed EVERY TIME!

I view this in terms of China. It is the pre-China war. The worst case for the US and the west in general would have been China Russia and Iran going to war at the same.

China let Russia go first to check Western resolve. The results should be giving China second thoughts. As Iran was a significant source of oil it makes sense to knock them off as an oil exporter to China.

More or less a twofer. Bust Iran's military capability and significantly impact China's oil imports. Venezuela was a significant Chinese exporter. Russia's shadow fleet just has to be probably targeted and they will have difficulties.

I don't see that it matters to the US & West as to who is in charge so long as the current lot are dead.

its good question as to how china sees this. USA i suspect keeps selling china oil from venezuela as long as china tows the line in our favor. e. g. control china.

China is very conscious of the Malacca straits and that several countries could interdict the tankers going through there. I've read that China has 90 days of oil on which to run. No tankers getting through means no China.

I like the YT channel Taiwan Talks - very level headed assessments. In one session it was suggested the first indicator of an invasion was being prepared would be China filling up the bunkers as Japan did before Pearl Harbor. That would only be sensible.

I think we are in much the same situation as in the lead up to WW2. Russia is like Italy starting off early and failing. China is the Germany. Iran like Japan hoping to snap up while every body is distracted.

It does seem to being played to dissuade China. Kicking them out of Panama and out of Venezuela. Now Iran. Hopefully that does dissuade.

Somebody has just torched a Russian liquid natural gas tanker bound for China in the Mediterranean. It was escorted by the Russian navy. That didn't work. China might not be able to rely on Russian door dashes. Fortunately the ship is burning because it would be a record setting explosion if the air to LNG mix gets into the explosive range.

Because I have a nasty mind, I'm inclined to think someone slipped Ukraine some satellite pics.

@Pterodon :) No it hasn't worked well, has it? Pakistan was a tad disappointed in the Chinese knock offs of Russian gear in the match with India.

During the Taiwan Talks episode last night it was stated it has been China's plan to have a Russian/Iran/China war with Venezuela as an emergency oil bunker for some time and that the Pentagon takes this as creditable.

So to force Europe into taking care of Europe, knocking of Venezuela and now taking out Iran would seem a game well played.

From 2027, 5 nuclear subs will be based at Stirling (near Perth, Western Australia). That is a major force to locate in the eastern side of the Indian ocean but a good reserve if Guam is taken out. A number of US bases in Australia seem to be Guam backups.

Went to a talk by a senior Australian Navy officer and was struck by how his whole demeanor changed when he was asked a question re China. His body language disturbed me as if he was deeply worried I ought to be too.

They are not the typical goat-molesting militia
They are organized, trained, and equipped
Also secular and non religious, with diversity and equality in their ranks


Considering how weakened Iran is right now they stand a very good chance at taking parts of it


Which is still a foreign invasion in a way but the Kurds have been claiming to be owed their own country for ages and they were kept from that by Iran and its proxies, mainly the Al Assad regime.


I’m not one who believes land can be “owed” but I can understand them wanting to have a national that’s not forced to live by another people’s standards and culture


Either way Iran as a nation is done.
Here’s hoping the Iranian people will still be allowed the chance to build a new country that doesn’t inherit this regime’s barbaric practices and political decisions
