Have you ever seriously thought about running for political office?

I notice there are actually politically savvy people on this site, not only on topics in their own country but geopolitically speaking. I'm curious, have any of you ever considered running for office?

i did. I was going to run for State Rep because the one we had was sort of a moron. The year before the election he drowned in his backyard pool. They ran his wife instead. I did not want to run against a dead guys wife so I changed my mind. The guy that ran instead won and he has been re-elected 3 times already.

Was his death suspicious? Maybe he was involved in a love triangle? I think you missed an opportunity! You were handed a gift.

In the current US political ecosystem I'd be a disaster. Pandering and sucking up to donors for cash is not my thing. And the large corporate and 1% donors operating through PAC's invariably place strings on that money. That's not me. And I don't want to become that.

And as @DryGermanGuy noted, you generally need to start at the local level, work your way up to state politics, and finally to the federal level. Basically it's a career you need to start in maybe your early 30's. Or you find a sugar daddy who views you as a malleable stooge like the Heritage Foundation did with JD Vance. But at that point you are going in as the wholly owned property of the people behind the money. A whore and a traitor with a mandate to pursue an agenda scripted for you by assholes.

Also a law degree and/or a Poli Sci degree is helpful but not absolutely necessary.

Lastly my background precludes me from getting involved in politics.

Never! For one thing, I'm not good at public speaking and I'm also very thin skinned lol Once the mud starts slinging, I'll cry 😔 It takes a special breed to get involved in politics.

Yeah. It’s a lot of work though, especially since you have to start at the almost uncompensated local level.
