There won't be regime change without ground forces. I don't think Trump is serious about regime change so I don't think there's any chance there will be any ground invasion. Oil is becoming too expensive, stock markets have entered a bear market, the US economy is fragile so walking away from this clusterf**k is the only thing that makes sense. Sending ground troops turns this into Trumps Vietnam and everyone, including Iran, knows this.

They're not and don't need to. Iran's population is in full revolt. The US is mostly air support.

No. Mountain areas result in very high casualty rates. The locals are well adapted to them and attackers quickly get drained making them easy to take out.

Helicopters are some of the easiest aircraft to shoot down. Are you really going to defeat hundreds of thousands of Iranian troops by flying in 2–5 soldiers at a time with helicopters?

And let’s not forget what happened in Afghanistan. The U. S. launched a ground invasion, stayed there for 20 years, and fought the Taliban the whole time. Because of Afghanistan’s mountainous terrain, they were never able to eliminate them. Thousands of American soldiers died.

In the end, when the U. S. left, the Western-backed government they had set up collapsed, and thousands of pieces of military equipment and weapons ended up in Taliban hands. And the Taliban are still in power there today.
