Not a reliable ally? How misinformed and offensive. Of course they are. Why would you think otherwise? First of all NATO is a defensive organization, period. The U. S. and Israel are already best buds and are as closely aligned as two countries can be.
Europe is aligned with us is so many ways: Militarily, economically, diplomatically, and culturally. They also share values such as democracy, human rights, and rule of law.
Are you saying because they (rightfully so) gave Trump the finger over Iran, but can you blame them? Nobody in their right mind wants to touch this disaster with a ten foot pole. It’s bad on so many levels, and they know it’s a loosing prospect. He didn’t even give them the courtesy of telling them he was going to start this war. He likes to muse that he doesn’t think NATO would assist us, but the fact is, they are the ONLY ones why did during 9/11. They are always there for us. But this bullshit in Iran is a war of choice, with no goal, or end in sight. Why would they help because Trump had a sadistic boner to bomb a country?

• The USA backed out of the Iran nuclear agreement, the Paris climate accords, and told NATO to go fuck themselves. The USDA can't be relied on to honor the treaties we sign under an old mentally ill criminal.
• The USA launched economic warfare against Mexico, Canada, the UK, and Europe with stupid tariffs that have no coherent purpose. The USA has no identifiable economic policy under a dementia riddled criminal with multiple personality disorders. The USA is no longer a reliable trading partner or economic ally.
• The USA launched a war against Venezuela unilaterally without conferring with allies. The US threatened to annex Canada and Greenland. The US made a unilateral decision to launch a war against Iran with no discussion with our former allies in NATO or friendly Gulf States in the region. The USA has destroyed stability in global oil markets and damaged economies on every continent. The USA is no longer a reliable political or military partner.

The USA was the NATO country that struck Iran first with missiles. Since they struck first they are considered the country that started the war. Countries that start wars cannot invoke Article 5 in NATO.

I think article 5 of NATO is about armed attacks and intercepting and board the Stena Imperative a NATO ship doesn’t seem to fit the definition and threshold.
NATO considers Article 5 triggers case-by-case, requiring a serious, deliberate, and often massive, act of violence rather than harassment.

The EU already has defense agreements with Canada, Japan and Korea outside of NATO. Israel is the only ally of the US right now. Trump spent all of 2025 threatening and insulting all allies of the US. You reap what you sow.

Of course it doesn’t. But the successor state (Russian Federation) is similar in more ways than not, to justify a defensive alliance in the west. Just when everyone kind of relaxed and the idea of a modern country being aggressive and invading another unprovoked, was looking so unlikely—until it happened! Russia (much to the shock and amazement of Europe) did that very thing.
Ask Sweden and Finland if there’s justification for NATO existence.
