Trump just issued an ultimatum. If the Iranians do not stop the blockade within 48 hours the US will start to bomb their power plants starting with the biggest one.
I would imagine that the Iranians have figured out by now that President Trump does not bluff.

I don't really see it as necessary. Japan is the only U. S. ally that is being directly affected. I would expect the talk with Japans PM was to discuss it.
Based on recent reports, Iran's nuclear material has been secured (objective complete). The Hormuz Straight will reopen on it's own once we leave the area.
