you self contradicted yourself. if you "HEAR" from them that they did NOT think of it then they were not "smart". if the new friends were "smart" they would not say ""wow, I didn't think of that!"if you want mental stimulation watch the show "the five" but not only listen! notice what each one is claiming and how the other responses CHALLENGE each other.

People have their areas in which they are knowledgeable enough to hold good conversations, if you can't find one to have many intellectual conversations, find different people for different topics.
That way you can gain something from their expertise as well.
