The whole concept of a government shutdown is beyond stupid. Congress can’t pass a budget to save their life, so just agree on a fucking continuing resolution and move on. I think it’s criminal to expect federal workers to work without pay. And it’s crazy that congress is exempt, and they get paid. The only Democrat I know of that feels bad about this is John Fetterman. (of all people.) He refuses to vote for the shutdowns.

So rather than risk another Richard Reid incident (the infamous shoe bomber) just let the private sector take over airport security.

Maybe privatizing TSA and some other agencies like that would stop some of the nonsensical bullshit

I'm not in favor of privatizing TSA, but it would be a good idea to have each airport hire subcontractors for security instead of TSA. That would be cheaper, probably more efficient, and would not be subject to politics shutting them down.

Many airports in the US already do that, and were unaffected by the shutdown.

Mexican business men that I know well were astounded by the lack of professionalism and sloppiness that they saw at TSA when they came to see me in the US.

you're talking to the wrong person. in my country, the entire health system runs on public health insurance. and it works perfectly fine. there's even options for people who want to pay extra but the essentials are covered. and in my country, the rail road system was privatized a few decades ago. if what you say ist true, germany must have the best rail roads now. but the opposite is the case. the infrastructure is dilapidated, no train is ever on time and prices are were outrageous untill the government decided to cap the price and force a "germany wide ticket" that has to be supported by all rail roads. that just lead to trains being even less on time. basically rail travel is a joke in germany since it was privatized and the entire EU laughs about that casue germans claim to be orderly and on point but then their trains are always late and a chaotic mess. cause guess what: in a market where customers look for the lowest price, quality isn't what companies will compete on. they'll compete on price and the product or service will be enshityfied. that's how that works and that is gonna be exactly what i predict will happen with tsa. in order to get more customers they will dump prices and quality.

Airports have been a thing for a century now. We only started using the TSA after 9/11. The problem is that we need to work towards having a high-trust society again.
