Are animals truly expendable for human progress and comfort?

We have used them to discover space, used them in make up, fashion and medicine. What are your thoughts?

Old Testament's answer is clear: YES, animals are expendable !

Expendable maybe because, according to these scriptures, animals are soulless? It's also convenient to consider them soulless and emotionless because then they can be used at will for progress and comfort, yup. If the first Catholics were to believe that animals were not expendable then western civilizations would certainly look very different.

On the other side of the religious spectrum, Eastern side, there are beliefs like Jainism, non-violence to all living creatures, such belief makes technological progress and comfort, as we know it, essentially impossible.

So, well, I think the more we stay away from Old Testament, the better things should get for other animals. There has been some progress towards ending the reign of OT but there's still a lot of work to do.

And we humans are animals as well
we’re just a lot more developed than most and so our needs for organic resources are increased


So the answer is yes.


And I don’t have any moral objections to it either

As much as I agree with the ethics of veganism and vegetarianism and rebelling against the industries of meat, eggs, and dairy, the fact of the matter is someone is going to eat it. If not the humans, then the local predators, if not the predators then the bacteria that floods their bodies. Someone will consume that livestock point blank period. By all means, rebel against the unethical! Tell the industries that perform animal testing you won’t buy their products, you won’t eat their meat, or drink their milk! But I am aware that my singular protest is not going to be enough to stop these industries who will always choose to cut costs than stay ethical (unless that’s their marketing platform). And fried chicken is pretty good so I’m going to keep eating it.

Animals are a resource. I love animals, I don't want them suffering. But I can, do and will continue hunting and trapping them for food. At least with me, it dies quick and painless as possible.

I love animals. And I am opposed to doing things to them that is inhumane or makes them suffer.

But I also eat them because I think that is a natural part of the ecosystem and humans were designed to be predators who eat animals (part of the proof of that is that there are certain vital nutrients like Vitamin B12 that only come from animal sources and cannot come from plants). It's part of the natural order.

Torturing them for experiments and some of the other things that are done to them is entirely separate and I am opposed to anything that makes them suffer unnecessarily.
