Is it strange that luxury spending feels wrong when others lack basics?

A birkin bag costs enough money to buy clean drinking fountain water for 500 people in Africa who are dying from dehydration. I do not understand why people volunteer at bake sales and Christmas parties at church while not helping people in Africa. Once I stop living with my biological family, my plan is to never go on vacation again. I do not see the point in expensive dinners when a bowl of rice and fruit is enough to feed my belly.
