Why are people telling me this Iran–Trump situation isn’t a disaster?

"Pete Hegseth has been in charge of Trump’s war on Iran for more than two months. Iran, while accepting a ceasefire offered by Trump that they didn’t even request, has resisted all attempts at a peace agreement, demanding that its control of the Strait of Hormuz and its highly enriched uranium are off the table.

Meanwhile, the world is being starved of the oil that remains bottled up in the Persian Gulf, with gas prices skyrocketing, gas rationing ordered in some countries, and petroleum-based fertilizers produced by Gulf countries in short supply worldwide. Experts estimate that if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed for much longer, the shortage of fertilizer will begin to affect food supplies.

Why does Pete Hegseth still have his job? Because he works for a deranged man who, only three days ago, was bragging about being able to identify a squirrel in a cognitive test that he claims was overseen by “a board of doctors.”

This country elected a sex criminal as president, who appointed a sexual abuser to be in charge of the U. S. military. They started a war that they cannot win. We are getting exactly what our fellow Americans in the Republican Party voted for.

Is it? Or is it all going according to plan?

You realise Trump is just the front man and isn't responsible for it one way or the other. there's an overall strategic blue print that has been planned out by very smart people and it doesn't matter who is president. The same thing would have happened if Kamala Harris was president.

When it comes to US foreign policy, military action, trade deals or whatever since WW1 to right now and you want to know why something happened, how something happened or what exactly happened you look at how it benefitted American foreign intrests, economy and companies. Even if we think it was a disaster.

Afghanistan war, iraq war, Syrian intervention, Libyan intervention, yemen intervention, somalian intervention, gulf war, Grenada invasion, Vietnam war, korean war, ww2, banana wars WW1 all met their strategic objectives.

Who is benefiting from the current Iran conflict and how? Answer that and you will see that its all going according to plan.

On the positive side... we went through major world wars and came out ok. But this one... is different, if Iran takes out the middle east, which they could, it's a new world order.

Also positive, so far, not that many Americans and Europeans have paid the price. It could have been a LOT worse than it has, so far. I give credit to Trump for being reserved and protecting lives conservatively. Compare to say Putin and Ukraine... which is another level of disaster.

We will survive... many people will not and will suffer. Usually, it's the poorest that suffer.

Trump, in his insane contempt had to cancel this, only to waste ~75 billion taxpayer dollars for practically zero results and offering Iran a worse deal (worse for the West, not Iran, mind you). The economical damage for the world is considered around 1 trillion dollars. It doesn't get any stupider than that.

Yeah, Iran has not been neutered at all. Iran is still in the position of winning and prevailing in this situation, mostly because they can block the Strait of Hormuz, which means that they can block 20% of the world's oil supply at their leisure.

Iran is still in the drivers seat. Leaders are rich , have food , and everything they need. They are not concerned about how their people are doing. This is why Iran is winning. leaders of US can't allow their people to take this type of hit. Don't get me wrong , US leaders don't care either. But our system is different. Gas will continue up and food prices are going up. inflation is going up.

Thing is that the successfull first strike and air campaign haven't been capitalised on.
In way this is reminiscent of how North Vietnam was defeated after the Tet-offensive and then permitted to recover.
Meanwhile Trump&Co are facing losing the midterm elections but hey at least they made plenty of money with insider trading.

No, Trump keeps making crazy offers to them that he knows they won't take and will have to refuse, and that makes them a bad guy. He's not going to go in and finish off anybody there because he's not able to. Both the strategic and tactical situations don't permit this. Also, the US is just about out of ammunition for almost everything they are trying to use down there. You can keep fantasizing that he's going to finish them off, and you can wait and wait and wait. My guess is that he'll wait until right up until the midterm elections when things really go to shit for him.

I'm not sure if this is as harmful as a tidal wave or not. It certainly is not as big a surprise and it's certainly has been more gradual than sudden, but it is what it is. Not being able to use or afford a Vital substance is not a small matter.

@Dargil the oil that can be pumped out of the ground here, and there isn't much of it, is of exceedingly poor quality and requires huge amounts of refining to be useful. Nobody wants it.

I misspoke to an extent there. The oil is actually not of poor quality. It is light crude and of pretty good quality, all things being equal. The real problem is that the refineries are designed to refine heavy, poor-quality oil, which is mainly what's important. A complete redesign of the refineries would be needed to process the oil that is pumped out of the ground here in the United States.

@Dargil the oil we have is not really the issue, except for the fact that it is extremely high-quality oil, as it turns out. That is actually a problem. We do not have refineries that are capable of refining very high-quality oil, and to do so would require that we literally rebuild most of those refineries, which would be incredibly expensive and take a long time. Nobody's doing it.
