Trending & News Of course not.
I have been teaching over 20 years.
after they changed 2-3 curriculums… and the news would say teachers can’t teach… oh… so this program we are using now… after 3 years. lol they figured out… it’s mainly a comprehension heavy program… but if kids can’t read… how do they comprehend? They also decided to not use their phonics section … so… makes sense? Kids can’t read?
I learned that … the goal is to not educate kids in the US. The goal is to make sure they become dump and stupid.
I close my door and do what I want sorta… because they come check on us regularly… so my observation (from 2 principles… only my school have to have 2 principles come to the observations)…. I got all developing. Because I did not follow their way to teach.
math - same… using 4th different curriculum next year. So the goal is to make sure kids can’t do math … they have to relay on counters and manipulative… to play… count.
I use mental math, but they said I have to let kids use manipulative … and they don’t believe in homework…
i really hope trump has time to straighten out the education department but I doubt he has the time.
people have no idea half of what’s going on inside the school. It’s so sad.
I am leaving teaching very very soon.
When I was in junior high school there was a new program called the "new math" . It did not use traditional math but required putting the problem into an equation. I do not really remember exactly how it worked because I never understood it. A few years later the program was abandoned. However the students that were stuck in it never really were able to catch up.
My mom has worked with second graders for the last ten or so years, and she said every year the reading ability gets worst.
I think it's a combination of trash parenting and a culture of coddling. Teachers can only do so much, and can only do what laws allow them to. Parents don't help their kids and don't make their kids meet standards (both academic and behavioral) like they used to. And then a lot of states have laws that pretty much let kids go to the next grade regardless of how well they did academically. Our local highschool has a 40% reading proficiency rate and a 26% math proficiency rate. Embarrassing.
You're not wrong. My grandfather read to me when I was very young like under 1 year old. When I was 2 I started trying to read to him. Every parent should do this. Every parent should read to their kids.
I think it ultimately comes down to the parents for not being more engaged and active in their kids' lives and not holding them accountable. I'm certain that there are questions to be asked about the way teachers are trained and what kind of guidance and support they get from schools and districts, but the parents are the first and foremost educators and formators of their children.
No, a lot of my students in college are the same kids who were in grade school during thr two covid years. A lot of them cannot do simple math and they write at a 5th grade level. It's really a shame e
Agreed, sadly I blame both the parents and the teachers.
When I was a small child, like earlier than I can remember, my grandfather read to me. When I was old enough I started reading to him, parents need to read to their kids. It would solve this.

Really? With so many doctors, engineers and scientists

I saw a video of a teacher saying that the kids don't think they need to know how to read because ai will read for them and he was upset because he couldn't think of a counter argument
Considering how much of the third world we imported through illegal immigration, not really.
Once we get rid of them, the rate should be much higher. I don't think it will be entirely back to normal but it'll be more accurate.
