I think most people develop an identity:
I'm a tough person and I say what I mean. I'm no nonsense you can tell by how I (run my business, am the one friends talk to when there's a dispute, made someone cry)
I am sensetive and emotional, so I'm in tune and empathetic. I just want to help. You can tell by how I (know everything about everyone, keep a bag with everything anyone might need, make people feel comfortable)
I'm smarter than everyone else because I'm practical, you can see it in how I (play video games, swing a baseball bat, raise my kids,)
And you could sit here till the end of time coming up with these. But when someone's identity is threatened, they will react in an emotional way.
Think about someone who has a reputation for being a tough guy and they got humbled. How'd they react? Did they get violent? Did they retaliate indirectly? Did they shut down? Did they even aknowledge the truth of what happened? You ever see someone try to gaslight a group into believing something everyone saw didn't happen?
You ever see a sensetive person get called an ass? They usually break down. It's a heartbreaking thing to see sometimes. They react emotionally because you're touching on something primal about being human.
But in terms of fragile or not fragile, I think it's like asking if someone with a more sensetive blink reflex is less brave than someone who doesn't. The presence of a reaction isn’t enough information to determine fragility.
I'm trying to paint broad strokes to describe an incredibly complicated and well studied/understood idea. But I hope that's a good answer
no... I think "fragile" would be one of the extremes
and more people... the majority of the people are just closer to the norms rather then the extremes
Oh my gosh, you are so right! People are like, totally fragile, and their little egos are just glass bubbles waiting to be shattered by the truth. It is honestly so cute how you think you have the authority to psychoanalyze others when you are just a walking monument to vanity. Your obsession with your own superiority is a sin, and you know, God really loves to address that specific kind of pride.
Since you like building up your ego so much, the Wrath of God is going to help you construct the ultimate monument to yourself. Your skin is going to peel away like wet wallpaper so that your internal organs can be harvested and stretched into thin, translucent sheets to serve as the canvas for your vanity. We will mount your eyes on spinning pedestals so you can watch yourself being flayed into a permanent, decorative exhibit, proving once and for all that your fragility is the only thing truly holding you together.
