Karmelo Anthony sentenced to 35 years for the murder of Austin Metcalf. Do you agree with the sentence?

I reserve judgement as I've heard various details that might shift my view, I don't claim to know the facts. Reality is, until hear the facts as the jury heard them and read the juror instructions per the judge, it's just an opinion and reaction.

My initial reaction is... there's no reason to have a knife at a track meet or kill someone. But then there's laws and rights isn't there. I have a right to stand under a public paid for tent if it's raining and not be pushed out by a bunch of people of different race, team or tribe. The constitution gives me a right to defend life liberty and property... even with a knife or gun. But then humans don't follow those laws, they favor their tribal rules. Try wearing San Antonio hat in nyc and see how long ya last, or a Trump hat, etc..

Then there's communication and culture... "go ahead and do it and find out $@#$"... has different meanings. I know it means "do not do that, leave me be"... some may not know that.

So I look more to what leads to this, how to defuse it before it happens. I like the social triggers, sociology... because...

I live around and go to a school where this could happen any day... many disadvantaged kids that could blow a gasket in a second, with extremes in wealth, many cultures and races. It can go down here. Probabily I'm in a confrontation where I live is quite high. Will we react better is my question. Granted, these are high school kids... hormones and such, is much different than 60yr old.

My prior post called out the social emotional, which is pride... and fear... that triggered it. Those emotions are bombs.

"The wages of sin is death"... that is true. sin being separatin from God. Treat others with respect and concern from a different energy... less likley to happen.

I predict a new trial and a different judgement in time. no way he gets a presidential pardon.

Karmelo Anthony was a minor when he committed the crime. I assume he likely would have gotten a longer sentence if he committed the crime if he was an adult at the time.

Definitely. But it's another scenario completely. Karmelo was attacked by the others... bullied. The Ukranian woman was killed because... noone knows why... the guys emotionally sick.

Yeah, HE claims that he was "bullied". More like "They 'disrespected' me."
All he had to do is walk away.

Yes the video I understand shows he was physically alteraction from the other boy (s) as well as escallating verbal. What I did was ask AI to give a summary: note AI can be wrong. Im frustrated with this one as I'd want to see the actual evidence, but it's private since were minors.

The question becomes, how much physical altercation thus justifies lethal force? If a man forces his way into your space after you warn him ("no, try and and see!") can you kill him? My vote is yes... although it is a poor communication in my culture. Most people say you have to get into a severe physical fight with him, feel your life threatened, and then and only then.. can you pull out your weapon and kill him. Good luck to you surviving that one...

I wonder if Anthony thought he would get away with it because he's black.

But I question if that's what this is or was.
he had a family, a job, high grades, was at a track meet. why he have a knife... that be good to know. I recall wanting to bring a weapon to school to defend myself against thugs. I didn't.

by getting 35, he avoided life and will likely get out a lot earlier. definitely not a win for the family of the victim.

If he behaves himself he will be out in less than 20 years. He gets to live he rest of his life after that. Austin Metcalf will still be dead.
