Capitalism. I'm not anti-capitalism (far from it). I'm just answering your question. From the top down our system shouts "lead follow or get out of the way". And if you're not leading you're somehow failing. As in every system there are winners and losers. And the losers are always behind. The rich will always angle for a bigger piece of the pie and will use every advantage they have to do so. I'm almost a millionaire and it took me till the past few years. To realize how advantaged the rich are. I made over a 100k by mid may this year. And the top are still outpacing me percentage-wise. What i'm trying to say is you will likely NEVER catch them. You and i are only fighting to stay out of the bottom 50% hopefully out of the bottom 75% and ideally in the top 10%. Because unless you re-invent the wheel you will not crack the top 1%. Their hammerlock is that strong.

When you understand this it's not hard to understand that we've evolved into a two-tiered system of the "working poor" (paid slaves essentially in a modern sense). The illusion of mobility. You are still afforded the dream that they KNOW you'll never achieve. And the other tier. The upwardly mobile. They have real disposable income. And they reap the rewards of the lower tier's labor.

Now in a political sense it's pretty clear, right? The Republicans are the party of the rich and the Democrats the party of the working man, right? Wrong! Nothing is ever that simple. They both have thier ideaologies and there are true believers in both camps. But they're both cash grabs. They both exploit their base for more political power. And they keep Americans fighting along party lines as they siphon off the top all the while.

the 2 main political parties are no longer on the same page as they'd say , decades ago the democrats and republicans weren't necessary this different and wasn't as much political disagreement on certain issues.

so left and right have moved further apart and no longer similar enough to please each other and no real sign that there will be any movement closer together anytime soon

Trump. Everything was civil until he came along and made it all about him, then made it ok for people to be racist and then actively rooted against America as long as it made Biden look bad. What a "leader"!
