Would you go to jail or lie to protect someone, and for how much?

I have a mystery and hope you can solve it for me.

A woman dies 10 years ago, but one person pleady for neglect and other person go to jail for refusing to give evidence.

I found out that that a third person might be involvec. The child of the person who pleaded guilty to neglect and other person may of had a NDA payment and so went to prison.

A suicide could be a murder suicide

It depends on who I was protecting. If it was my wife or one of my kids I would do it. A total stranger forget it. If it was my former boss I would drop a dime on him.

If different then protecting someone that you would go to the same location for.
