Why do only Americans watch American football?

It's only a minority sport elsewhere and I suspect a great many of fans are Americans living abroad. I think the problem could be the name, and the fact its heavily promoted as "all American." Stuff like that really makes us cringe. Same reason baseball, rodeo, nascar etc isn't a thing elsewhere, too American
@purplepoppy baseball is really popular in places like Cuba, Japan, and the Domican Republic. Arguably more popular.
@FrodoSkywalker007 i’m not so sure she likes the USA. Do you detect a little bit of jealousy from her?
@FrodoSkywalker007 yes unfortunately
All I'm saying is if something is marketed towards Americans don't be surprised if others feel its not for them
Yeah but no one English lives in lôn
London
Nonsense. Football is big in Canada and Mexico. Baseball is HUGE in Japan. The MLB routinely recruits kids out of central and south America. The whole world does not despise the US as much as you repeatedly insinuate.
@FrodoSkywalker007 Sadly the Windies cricket team is suffering from baseball being financially more rewarding.
Well Australians don't because we have a much better game. Aussie Rules. Codified before all the others, it includes the basics of native Australian football so it is about 50 to 60,000 years old.
Right from the get go it was design to be fast, near continuous play and highly spectacular & entertaining. If our guys can go across and dominate in your game it should tell you something.
Because:
1. It's a lot more exciting than soccer.
2. There's a lot less acting.

3. Everybody knows what time it is and how much time is left. It's not left unknown but only known to some omniscient referee.
It's just not appealing to other places. Especially countries where rugby is popular, hard to get into when you're use to games where something actually happens for more than 5 minutes
@spartan55 I have actually. It was a lot of waiting around, multiple hours of broadcast for less than 20 minutes of game play is wild.
@exitseven there's plenty of protection in rugby, plus rules on the ways you are allowed to tackle
@exitseven yes. So there is protection... and rules like only tackle below the waist
@Razp_Sorbet So... the standing guy with studs raking the ball has right of way over the poor sod lying prone on the ground next to it... I wouldn't call that protection...
@spartan55 I didn't say it wasn't appealing to everyone 🙃 obviously its appealing to Americans
Yes, Rugby is much more exciting. No time outs, no changing offense for defense. Just continuous play. Plus they're not hindered by pounds of padding. In American football the actual play is about 10 percent of the game if that much. From the time the ball is passed to the quarterback until the play is over is about 10 seconds. That's boring.

It isn't just Americans. Canadians watch it and then there are lots of overseas games because it is so popular.
UK, Mexico, Brazil I think, Germany had one.
their barely watched at all.
How do they fill those hige stadiums overseas if no one is interested?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_International_Series
That’s not true, @robocop666. Two-thirds of Canadians prefer to watch the Superbowl over the Grey Cup. There is a huge NFL market in Mexico. I have a Mexican friend who owns a bar in Sacramento. The shelves are lined with Mexican NFL memorabilia.
You are way off base with this ignorant assumption. Do ten minutes of research.
We grew up with it and are invested in the teams we love and the strategy of the game, dominance of elite defenses and the speed and skill of elite players. A huge play at suspenseful, crucial times.
Just like other countries grew up watching "soccer"
Cause it’s boring and overrated, but deeply part of American culture. Thus, Americans like it while most of the rest of the world ignores it as it has nothing to do with them or their country.
cause nobody else likes watching a sport where only every like 30 minutes anything happens and there's a full hour of adverts between anything that could potentially be interesting.
like i watched a game once and i'm not familiar with the rules but to me it looked like they were taking breaks more than they were playing.
NFL is too poor compared with FIFA or UEFA to popularize American football in Europe. While FIFA has the capacity to popularize soccer in North America.
People like local sports.
A story, competition, rivalries….
Watching a sport in another country as an outsider is not the same thing
And American football isn’t played everywhere and where it’s played it’s very niche
Because Only Americans would watch glorified rugby in padding...
If that were even close to true the NFL wouldn't be playing so many games overseas each season to overflowing statiums.
That's probably true
They don't. American football is popular in Canada, the CFL, and in Europe. Germany, for example, has an American football league.
I'm sure the NFL fights tooth and nail to make sure they aren't beaten to the international market... Even if they don't seem to be in a rush.
Most other nations aren’t too keen on an hourlong show of advertisements, interrupted by a few moments of gameplay.
They don't. There are thousands of Euros that watch it. That's why we hold one or two games a year out of USA. There are lots of Philadelphia Eagles fans in England because Princess Diana was a fan
I dont understans why people support sports teams.
You sound like a boring and miserable person.
That’s not true. It’s quite popular in Mexico and Canada too.
Same reason only Australians watch Australian football and Canadians watch Canadian football
It's in the name, Captain Obvious. The closest thing Europeans are into is rugby, and that's only Anglos. The only part many Europeans like is the American style cheerleading (although Asians often do it better).
I have seats to the Rams @ 49ers in Melbourne.
I watch some football but not a lot. Americans watch it because it is really an American sport.
Because the rest of the world hasn't figured out that soccer pretty well blows.
Cause it's shite.
We all know the answer to that.
You should have waited about 2 months before asking this. Unless you're just going to keep asking it like a broken record..
my family is korean and they watch it occasionally in korea !
very few people are like you
@robocop666
You must be a Euro.
They don’t Europeans watch it. Look at London England they love it
That's most definitely not the case. If it was, then there would not be multiple games being played in Europe every single year. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about
They love watching fat slobs like themselves. There are next to no obese soccer stars.
We only allow the truly worthy to watch.
It's a uniquely American sport.
Because it's American.
Cause their friends and families do
Because it is boring like rugby.
Probably because it's an American invention..
Because other nations have rugby.
A valid question 🏈
Because we can
I have no idea
because its better.
