Generals have been complaining about the volume of ammunition expended since the American Civil War. Certainly the Boer War and WWI. So much ammunition and relatively so few enemy casualties. It turns out that average troops fire to encourage the enemy to stay away and it is relatively difficult to get them to fire to kill. They needed training to fire to kill which was done post WWII.

Which seems to be a long way off the topic.

But my point is that you put ordinary people in brutal life and death situations and can't expect them to be brutal in some circumstances but be lambs in others. It has a degree of incredibility.

One of the criticisms I've read of Iraq is that troops shot wounded Iraqis on the ground to be sure they were dead. Like Japanese soldiers, wounded Iraqis would play dead holding a hand grenade.

So really I find it hard to criticize a soldier doing that when by not doing that they put themselves at risk of being killed or maimed.

Yes rape should not have occurred but put people in brutal circumstances, brutal things happen.

Because they could, and it's not restricted to just American soldiers. This happens in wars all the time. Shit, this happens in non war life --- ALL the time.

If your trying to point out that the US military has members in its ranks that commit atrocious acts, yes we know that. If you think the American public cares enough to mobilize and raise its voice about THAT, just remember they elected a child rapist President, and that this rapists were known to other administrations as well who did nothing about it.

You get the same amount of concern from the same people everyday, very few of, if any, who are conservative. Even so, they are protected by people of power no matter their supposed political alignment.

Unfortunately rape happens in pretty much each war, so I wouldn’t doubt it. Although I wouldn’t say that most of the American soldiers were doing so, I’m sure there were some who did. Same thing probably happened in Afghanistan. And I heard that it happened a lot in Vietnam. The same thing is also being done by some Russian soldiers in Ukraine for example. So you get the point, war in general sucks.

To answer your question, because our local media would have never covered something like this back then. Even today, it’s largely considered taboo to talk about the negatives of American military personnel abroad. But again, I don’t think that most American soldiers did this in the last few wars, or at least I would hope not.

Because there were some sick fucks in uniform and the military didn't weed them out. That includes private militia like Blackwater. The US government swept it under the carpet rather than deal with the publicity.

What you say isn't even bases in reality. The US military was forced to suspend operations in Fallujah in 2004 because of civilian losses. The media and people cared and often criticized civilian death tolls. What they didn't care about was the far higher death toll causes by suicide bombings of civilian areas, ieds, or random massacres by insurgents. Something like 80% of civilian casualties were causes by those groups.
