Should British pubs be open later for the world cup?

Because the USA selfishly uses a different time zone and insists on having daylight at inappropriate hours, English football fans are forced to stay up until the wee hours to watch a game.

The next England game kicks off at 01:00 and finishes about 03:00 British time and people were upset the pubs will be closed then. Thankfully, the government ignored police warnings and have granted pubs the right to stay open until 05:00 so everyone can get rat-arsed.

But would you stay up late to watch a game? Would you actually go to a pub or just stay home and watch on sofa or in bed? Would you even still be sober if kick off was 01:00?

I can relate. As a midwestern UFC fan, i had to stay up until the wee hours to see the headline fights broadcast from Vegas and California. Now that i’m in California, they hold events all over the world. I once had to get up at 8 a. m. to watch the fights. 😂😂😂😂

Mostly I am replying to express my astonishment at an act of sensible government. My world view has taken a consistency hit.

As to whether I'd watch at 1 am... well I have mentioned Aussie Rules before. It is so good that any other code is boring but none more so than soccer. So I'm not watching at anytime.

Most people will watch this game later to breakfast while drinking coffee. It's 02:00-04:00 CEST and it's best sleeping time.

In America they kept the bars open until 3AM nistead of the usual 1AM so people could keep drinking and spending money.

The pubs should be open so that was the right call. We need our bread and circuses. I would stay up for a USA game that was big. Some years I would have gone to the pub and some years at home. This ain’t a go out type year though.
