Not saying it's likely. The sport is not very popular in the US, and it's viewed more as a woman's game due to the USWNT success. However, would people be upset if the US found significant success?

Soccer fans tend to be VERY passionate. So everyone who doesn’t win would naturally be upset. I don’t think that our international friends would be overly sour about it though. Someone has to win and it’s been that way for nearly a century.
I think there have been riots in European countries after controversially close matches. But how would we tell them apart from deadbeat lefties who are just mad about immigration laws and having to get a job? 😂😂😂😂

If they play well then people won't be upset. If they win because of questionable decisions or other bs then people will complain. Doesn't matter if it's the US or any other country.

It's just that elsewhere being smug and gloating is seen as somewhat unbecoming and an undesirable trait, but it's kinda the norm in the USA. Just at a glance, Columbian Independence Day, Mexican Independence Day, Bastille Day in France. Plenty of nations celebrate their founding, or significant events in their history. Let's also not forget that Canadians (stereotypically nice) booed the US anthem at a hockey game, and the US fans helped Canadians sing their anthem. Besides, Soccer hooligan culture? (Yes! I'll use the term soccer, it's a British term after all). In the US, that sort of culture would be viewed as bad sportsmanship. I'd argue Americans are generally nicer than your typical European, and that seems to be true from many World Cup fans talking about their experiences. You are silly.
