Scalping is already illegal in most states, and what the oil companies are doing is scalping. They've done this before, and Congress intervened and forced them to lower prices in the past. The President is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the Nation, so he has the power to enforce Scalping laws.

Scalping in most states is defined by raising the price of a goods or service by more than 10% in response to a disaster. I know Louisiana already has laws on the books making such actions illegal, and I know many other southern states already have such laws. The corrupt Governor's office and corrupt law enforcement almost never enforce the law, but it does exist on the books.

Who decides what the price of oil should be? Is it the government? Are you saying that the government knows what the correct price should be?

Oil CEOs are muti-millionaires and billionaires at everyone else's expense. Of course the Government should set the price for basic infrastructure. Of course the government should regulate interstate commerce as the CONSTITUTION says.

Congress has the power to regulate interstate commerce. That's in the Constitution. They rarely use that power but they have the power to set the price on EVERYTHING which crosses State or Federal borders or waterways.

I'm actually a registered Republican, but consider myself independent. The only reason I registered Republican is because Louisiana passed a law requiring you to register one way or another.

The Founding Fathers were actually Colonists, and all of the colonies were originally very much Socialist constructions. You had to work together for the common good to survive in colonial days.

Anyway, I'm independent. If I don't like the leading candidates, I vote for someone else or abstain from voting at all. I'm not voting in support of someone I disagree with.

Moses and Jesus in terms of social welfare, were way left of the Democrats. Moses commanded that every 50 years all the land and money was supposed to be confiscated from the rich people and re-distributed to the poor. Jesus, when asked what must be done to be "saved", he told the Rich Young Ruler to keep the Ten Commandments. So then the ruleer said he had kept them all his life. So then Jesus told him to go and sell everything he owned and give to the poor.

Both Republicans and Democrats who call themselves "believers" in God are in Grave error about what the Bible actually says about giving. You are NEVER commanded to pay tithe to a Christian Pastor in the Bible. You are told in Isaiah chapter 1, that in order to be saved you should "Plead the cause of the Fatherless and Widow" i. e. adopt a fatherless child or marry a widow, or even give half your paycheck to an widow until she is no longer poor, but you are NEVER told to give tithe to a preacher or prophet, EXCEPT the Levitical priesthood, which no longer exists, and they were forbidden from owning land of their own.

Now we have fake christian "pastors" who are millionaires and billionaires at everyone else's expense, and they falsely prophesy blessings over anyone who gives 10% of their income to the false pastor.

"The prophets prophesy falsely and the priests bear rule by their means (as opposed to God's commandments,) and My People Love to Have it So." - God in Isaiah.

You answered your own question asker. Limited government, doesn't mean no government actions. What you are conflating is comman economies and central planning where the government has complete control with price controls which is the government occasionally stepping in to fix economic issues.

I heard a rumor that gas pricing is based on worldwide supply rather than the actual supply within the US, which is why it is so high. If Trump it telling them to knock that shit off then I don't think that's communistic because we are, supposedly, an energy independent nation.

He told gas retailers to lower the gas prices. According to your link, he also said that the elevated gas prices amounted to price gouging, which he said is "totally illegal," and warned retailers of "big problems."

39 states have anti-price gouging statutes.

Yes he told them to drop the prices. But it isn’t communist.

But gas is a critical basic infrastructure and the government should set a price for it. The government regulates these industries through the Interstate Commerce Claus.

Pressuring a business to bring their prices down is not letting "free market forces"and "competition" guide the economy. Don't "conservatives" won't to shrink the government down so small that it can fit in a bathtub? Keep government out of your life? Who decides what prices are "gouging"? When consumers scream "Uncle"? Does Trump know how much the price of oil "should" be?

Price controls are not inherently socialist. Marxist and socialist economies rely on central planning, which requires governments to be directly involved. Capitalist, or free market perspectives do not suggest being totally against it, but like in the words of Ludiwg von Mises, argue that extensive use of it often leads to totalitarianism or "statism" which ultimately leads to command economies. Mixed economies, including non socialist, and Capitalist governments use them from time to time to protect people from marker issues or foul play. Get real.

I understand your answer. You don't understand that he and his rich friends (billionaire class -Musk, Zuckerberg , Bezos, etc.) ARE NOT ON THE SIDE OF REGULAR CITIZENS! For decades, the GOP supported policies that are PRO-BUSINESS! The real reason he's doing this is because his poll numbers on the economy are in the toilet and the GOP is begging him to help them in the midterms! TELLING COMPANIES WHAT PRICES TO SET IS NOT THE BEHAVIOR OF A FREE MARKET CAPITALIST!
