    It definitely feels better.
I'm a skeptic and a realist. I'm not a Pollyanna who sees the world through rose colored glasses, but I choose not to let negativity make me depressed. I can see the good in my life and in the world and choose to be happy.
I look at the wonder and beauty of creation and am grateful for the ability to experience it with my five senses.

In regards to optimism, I just figure that what is going to happen will happen and I do my best to resist the bad things that certain people want to force upon us. I do my best to be prepared and to protect my wife and myself.

I am aware of the bad stuff that happens in the world but choose not to focus on doom and gloom.

I look around at the natural world and see that other creatures don't worry about the future. They just go about their business. I think that's a healthy outlook.

Yes. In the reverse way though. Instead of "feel good, prepare for the worst" i try to "feel the objective reality no matter how terrifying, and see the good side.

My new goal is mental positivity and emotional reality. While for the average logical person it is emotional positivity and mental reality. ㅤ

    Yes but no.

I usually make provisions for the worst - so that the realistic outcome is better than ''expected''.

Anyhow - in the respective situations being optimistic can be a plus.

    As one example:

It so happens that yesterday a policeman put me in handcuffs. I ran a red traffic light without seeing the enemy early enough. He expected me to listen to his sermon obediently. Which I did not. Apparently, he was afraid of me - hence the handcuffs. Well... I was a bit on the confrontative side - admittedly.

While he nestled around with his equipment, I suggested to use both of my wrists to make it work. His colleagues very quite interested and documented the procedure with their handphones (classic police equipment, I guess?).

Now my optimism stepped in: I asked him if it's ok to take pictures because it's a fun moment. He said that it isn't fun. He was wrong. I took a selfie (not too easy when one is handcuffed).

After some other sermon and me dropping confrontations, he then displayed a generous side - from his view.

I did pay a fine. BUT: He was not at all aware that he could have collected a lot more government funds because... well... a number of other ''legal'' points were at stake - but he preferred to shine in the glory of his self eminence, and of the moment.

My 'optimism' in things going the way I wish them to paid out :D

    I felt good.

The fine cost me a few beer's worth, though.

I disagree. I choose to live in reality. As much as that is possible. What is the probable response or outcome based on my own experience and analysis? What can I reasonably control and what is beyond my control? What are the benefits or the consequences of my actions or inaction? I don't need to feel better. I need to feel that I've done my best and made realistic choices. That is good enough for me.

I usually make decisions relatively quickly and move on to the next decision. I don't dwell on the past since I can't change the past. But I can adjust or fix going forward. I focus on that.

I can't. My mind literally doesn't let me. I genuinely want to be, and there ARE times where I can be optimistic, confident, and hopeful of the future, but especially when I haven't had any recent wins in life, it's hard to feel that way. I feel like I see all the outcomes and possibilities and there almost always seems to be more negative outcomes than positive ones.

We all know that being positive is better for your health, happiness, and just overall getting though life, but it's still a tough task for me.

I think it's better to be realistic about the situation and have a hopeful outlook about it. That's not the same thing as being optimistic. It means you control what you can and do the work to achieve the desired end state instead of simply assuming that something good will happen.

that sounds like fantasy and utopia. people were hoping and optimistic mamdani would arrange free busses. i was not disappointed because i knew democrats lie. i hoped he would prove me wrong. that is different than optimistic that things will be better. i would be pleasantly surprised.

I'm a paranoid person. Prepare for the worst hope for the best that's how I find to be the most optimistic.

Anyone with legal liabilities will say the same.

Safety third is also a good saying. Doing nothing is obviously the safest thing but that's boring. So safety third is respecting it's fun doing risky things and you can do more fun things in the long run being safe.

Appearing optimistic is good to appear positive in other people's perception. Optimism on individual level can be deceiving because considering every option, even less optimistic ones can prevent rude awakenings.

Absolutely. Even how you walk makes a difference. A sad unhappy person walks head down. A happy person walks head up. It is hard to be unhappy if you walk head up.
