How is it that the US ranks so low in press freedom, when it's literally inshrined in our constitution?

ALWAYS question who is doing polls and what reasons might they have to “adjust” the outcomes. Find the questions they use and the definitions they use for defined terms in the poll or so-called “index”. Also question who is answering and who was left out. Who is taking the data in and how, phone calls, electronic or written ballots?

First, traditional mass media hates Trump and shows a clear bias for the Left. Secondly, who did they invite to vote and who didn’t they. I bet they kept it to themselves. To me this is worthless.

Look at X. That is free speech. We almost didn’t have it. It is a “press” in it’s own right but they won’t acknowledge it I would bet as it isn’t “controlled” by them or anyone else. We get information now so fast, so well vetted… overtime however which is better than never. The vetting comes from thousands if not tens of thousands of people providing counter points and new information to strengthen it or tear it down.

X is the Free Press now. X is the future. Some faceless editor practicing Yellow Journalism is not.

You need to understand what an index is purportedly measuring and how it is measuring. Quite possible you (US) is rated low for stuff that is not really freedom of press.

In this case it appears to be measuring how prevalent counter culture views are expressed and it seems to be subjective views of their delegates in those 180 countries.

As a current example, Super Girl bombing at the box office could be taken as intolerance of it's underlying social views. Certainly those that have produced the bombs seem to think the movie going public - men in particular - have serious political deficiencies. It could just be Super Girl bombed because it wasn't entertaining and people don't pay for not being entertained.

I think you should automatically assume that this index is a proxy measure of how prevalent Left-wing thought is expressed

US is death and constitution isn't valid anymore. What matter are group of 1% who is skimming the cream and only their interest matter. If constitution is an obstacle for their goals, it will be just omitted by executive and legislative. By the way, this isn't only valid in US it's a world wide situation. Most countries have tons of issues in constitutional courts which are delayed or ignored completely.

That's the problem! The entire "freedom scale" is another way for Europe to promote their model of government. They consider a a nanny state (free Healthcare, free college, heavy regulations on corporations...) as "freedom". They say the US is less free, because we have a high rate of incarceration lol and apparently, because we don't rely on the government to solve our problems. One model has been resilient, the other model is completely falling apart.

Trustworthiness in the press has been at its lowest point in history. Its actually lower than congress (which is at its lowest point). That's saying something. It's why many move to independent media, because msm has largely become nonsensical in its coverage.

This is hilarious. The organization that did the "study" in questions, RSF, demonstrates in the first sentence of their article that they are biased, just as Trump says. Trump's "attacks" on the press are really just calling them out for their bias. So RSF obviously defines a lack of "press freedom" as getting criticized for pushing biased rhetoric. Hilarious, but sad.
