I was watching a video a few hours ago where a white guy spoke with a Hindi accent for a few seconds and then said he probably shouldn't use that offensive accent. If it's so offensive, why do Hindus continue to use it? To continue, why is it that I can speak with any number of British accents all day long, if I like, and not a single Brit will be offended by it? Most that I've done it with have been very impressed!!
Does this mean that every western movie and t. v. show should have all their Indian dialects spoken by white men pretending to be Indians be changed to, maybe, a high-brow British accent?
Me General Custer. Me wantum talkum to you, Cochise!!
I say, old boy, you don't have to speak to me that way. I understand perfect English! A friendly little chat with you would be quite nice, indeed! Come with me to my wigwam and we'll chat over a nice cup of tea and crumpets. My valet will escort you there and I'll be with you post-haste! I just have a few palefaces to scalp and I'll be with you in a tick, dear fellow. Trot along!
Does this mean we should get all those movies and t. v. shows where Peter Sellars, Warren Mitchell and Mike Peake portrayed Hindu's, Russians and Chinese people and have all of them redubbed to proper English? Should we feel guilty for having ever watched any of them?
I know of a Chinese comedian that speaks with a strong Texas accent. Should we force him to speak with his native tongue?
What about all the foreigners here in America who speak perfect English even though they're not from here? Do any of you other Americans ever feel offended by them speaking English?
Do people in the south ever get pissed at people in the north who speak like they're from the south? How about the other way around?
Do valley girls and surfer dudes ever get pissed when people from other parts of the country speak like them?

Unless you're SPECIFICALLY doing it to piss off or make fun of the people that speak like that, I can't, for the life of me, understand how or why using any of those dialects/accents could possibly be offensive!! My girlfriend's from Egland and, when she uses her American accent (and she does it EXTREMELY well!!), I'm not the LEAST bit offended and she thinks all of my British accents are just great!! I've had other Brits tell me that, if they didn't know any better, they'd swear I was a Brit!
