Do you think American parents are too easy on their kids?

In other cultures, kids are given responsibilities very early in life: babysitting their siblings, cooking, cleaning or even finding jobs at young age. Over here in america, a child working job is called child labor/child abuse. A 10 yr old child helping her single mother cook dinner is wrong because kids should be having fun rather than given responsibilities. Whenever an American talk about why they are great parents... they usually say it is because they spend as much time as they can with their kids... how many gifts they buy their kids... how many vacations they go on and memories they create... how many toys they buy their kids...

No teaching about work ethic, no standards for school grades, no emphasis on academic excellence, lack of goals. There is just a "just have fun" mentality towards childhood. There is just no "push" towards excellence or ambition.

In my opinion, this is the best way to raise kids to become lazy, entitled, unambitious, irresponsible adults.
