Just to correct, you taxes are not guaranteed. There are more than a few countries that are complete free of personal income tax. And there are many tribes in the world that are not even integrated in the system.

Also, for roughly about 95% of human existence, society operated without formal monetary taxation, private property, or centralized states. Taxation is pretty much a very modern concept.

For me, the biggest truth about life is pretty much what you said about death... but here's more detail... everyone experiences the slow quiet dread that time is padding. We watch parents age and have to face our own mortality ourselves. Nothing you build or love is permanent. Every generation must learn to say goodbye to loved ones.

The biggest truth about life is that no one gets out alive but before that happens you will spend an absurd amount of time looking for matching or missing socks, looking for your car keys, wallet & glasses if you have them. In addition you will wonder what you opened the fridge for or went into the garage for if you have a garage.

Nobody gets out alive. This, to me, is a frame for perspective. More often than not we care too much about things that don’t really matter and too little about things that really do matter. Remembering that life is short can help simplify prioritization. When you are gone, who will remember you and how will they remember you?
