Why do students choose inane majors?

Why do students borrow 10s of thousands of dollars and choose majors, like Women's Studies and the African American Experience that they'll never be able to make enough money to pay off their loans with? Student loans should be taken away from the federal government. It should be up to individual colleges to decide whether to lend money to students based on their earning power that should follow. That is what endowments should be for. If and when that happens, These screwball majors that people are taking will disappear.

Heaven forbid public monies be spent on activities that bring cultural benefits instead of paying rich kids to get professional qualifications that they would have done anyway the benefits of which are almost entirely realised in their weekly earnings after graduation.

Because they can make money, all they have to do is go on to become a teacher of that said thing or join some company that some bs easiest job in your life department based around it in which you'll get paid for basically doing nothing while pretending your consolation is important.
Why focus on law to take a stressful lawyer role or something when you can get a job that pays you for nothing. Might never pay off your debt either but you are earning while not doing any actual work.
