Are travelers turning into social media zombies who ignore locals?

Hello strangers 🎀 I need opinions so I came here 😌 I have a special question concerning traveling. I work in a shop where customer service is very important. So we have to welcome everyone who comes in. This week , we had many tourists. So me I welcome them in my language and some say they speak English so I switch to English. The problem is many of them just stare at me when I talk to them and then they ignore me like I’m a furniture or something. Me when I traveled I’ve always communicated with the locals because to me it’s a mark of respect to answer to them since I’m in their country. So if a seller tried to communicate with me I would stay warm but saying I’m sorry if I can’t understand all. And that’s my question: it’s an era where traveling is so valorized but is it me or finally it’s just the prestige of it more than the actual experience? Because to me communicate with locals is part of experience but I feel people are becoming zombies and traveling just to put nice pictures on social medias.. that make me sad to be honest. I just wanted opinions on this thank you 😌

I want to add this : I can totally accept I’m a nobody on this earth but really I think answering to another human being talking to you is the base right? When did society drowned that down 😅😅😅
