What are your thoughts on parents that buy toys for there children?

It depends if they let the kid choose between options. In the west it is common to give toys.

but if you are a sadist you will get your kid something they don't want and force them to lie "i am thankful."

When i was 8 i had enough! I told the giver "do you really want me to say a thank you only because she is forcing me?". She did. So i said "thank you. But only to avoid punishment". As the giver stormed out i told her "next year come but without any presents" she said i will never come here again.

Depends. Some buy their kids affection with toys, others buy them out of habit.

There is no law that says toys MUST be bought. Some parents bought their kids holidays and cars, like mine did.
