These are my main principles:
- If you're not sorry, save your breath.
Personally I'm a believer that an apology shouldn't be thrown easily, not even to save face. A fake or forced apology to me is worse than none at all. At least an unremorseful jerk is more sincere than a liar.
- Don't bite more than you can chew
I walk away and won't escalate unless it's to save my family. I hate those that dish it out but are shocked when the other person is also reactive. Then obviously both need to get charged. They hide behind the "But I'm weaker or I'm your father" card. That makes you a cowardly bully. If the person won't do anything back to you, then feel guilty, feel bad... have empathy at least.
- Nothing is ever free, everything cost in life
Why would anyone still fall for calls saying you're going to get free coupons, free gifts, etc and then get all surprised when you have to pay for a club trial to even get those items? People aren't going to make a living by giving things for free out of pure kindness. This can do be applied with someone calling themselves nice too much... yeah right. You're expecting something in return.
