Why are there pretty much no lynchings or acts of street justice in the UK or the USA anymore?

Where I’m from, Rio de Janeiro, if someone is accused of rape, paedophilia, stealing, or similar crimes, they could be extremely lucky if they were simply killed rather than tortured first. People have had their hands cut off, been set on fire, decapitated, or subjected to other forms of brutal street justice.

Why does this kind of thing rarely happen in the UK or the USA? If people in the UK and USA claim to hate paedophiles so much, why don’t they take matters into their own hands? Surely the police couldn’t punish everyone if a very large number of people were involved in vigilante violence.
