How do you feel about "rednecks"?

Define redneck.

Field Labor: In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the phrase literally described poor, rural farmers and agricultural workers whose skin turned red from toiling outdoors.

Class Slur: Wealthier or urban people used it as a derogatory label to mock the coarse, uneducated, and working-class nature of rural country folk.
Interestingly, it always refers to white people and assumes that they are racist..

Kind of depends on whether you mean earthy, old-school people who live in humble surroundings, or racist, proudly ignorant yahoos who won't admit the South lost the war.

Ha ha. They are everywhere where I live. The places around the lake back home are built up and touristy but drive 5-10 minutes away from the lake and oh my.

It is like another world. They are mostly friendly and nice people, alwaya willing to lend a hand. They are hard working people for the most part. You do need to be fluent in hick or redneck to understand some of them. Ha ha.

I used to be surrounded by them where I used to live and they're simple folk, mostly harmless. Good to have around to change your oil or get some welding done. I don't see them where I live now and I don't miss them.

Are they though? Many own their own businesses such as a farm which by the way can be worth millions. It takes intelligence to be profitable in farming.

I know several farmers (hell, I even had them in the family) and can guarantee you that apart from not being a drooling vegetable, you don’t need much intelligence to be a farmer.

“Redneck” refers to the “farmer’s tan” common among people who make their living working outside. Its earliest reference was almost certainly to farmers, ranchers and the like; agricultural workers. But i think it’s fair to expand the definition to include some construction trades.
