I am Irish-American. What is my ethnicity?

I feel like ethnicities are highly subjective and flexible. Unlike race, there is no general consensus. For example, is Asian an ethnicity? What about Japanese? I was recently told that Mexican is a nationality, not an ethnicity. But others insisted that Mexican is an ethnicity. Apparently German is not an ethnicity. Neither is Irish.

I predict I will get many different answers about my ethnicity.

Mexican is a nationality...

every official census only registers your nationality, but not an ethnicity... there are options for people to specify if they identify under an ethnic group of people, yes... but that's not "Mexican" since that's not an ethnicity but a nationality

there are Native Indigenous and there are Afro-descendants, that's pretty much it... those are consideren ethnicities down here... this is also fairly new, started around 2020

American Irish. there's about roughly 100 years or more pf separation between irish in America and those in Ireland. Same as Italians in America.
