Is it unethical to not report an undocumented immigrant friend to ICE?

I know a man from Mexico who i used to work with and we are still in contact. I vaguely remember like 10 years ago, he told me that he's not legally in the us. I couldn't remember though. Well, he just confirmed it. He straight up said that he's illegally in the US. He doesn't use any government programs that benefit him. He works his ass off for his family. Also, if he ended up getting deported, he'd be torn from his family. There's no way in hell im gonna report him. Just wanna know if its unethical of me to keep my mouth shut.

I dont think so. Probably more unethical to report him at this point since he is a productive member of society with a family. Reporting him to this corrupt administration would only serve in making him a number for their vile work and they would be sending him to a place he has no connections to.

the issue is equality. moral need for you to report but if you are friend you can delay a bit to ask if he applied. if not- urge him to apply. the next day do the right thing.

He is just guilty of violation of a civil non criminal law.

Your friend will eventually get caught in deported anyways.
