Social security more or less pays for itself. Could double if we uncap the tax. From there pay dividends older folk retire early young folk getting desirable jobs and income.

It would be nice if the wealthy billionaires got taxed on what they earn per year; they don't. Instead, they get huge tax cuts when the gov't cuts millions away from programs like Medicare and medicaid, school lunches for kids, eduction, and programs for the poor.

Yes, of course they are planning this. They want people to depend on the meager amounts of money they give out when they employ us. If we don't depend on their charity, then we might be disobedient, and that they cannot stand.

Social security has not contributed to the national debt at all. This is due to spending on things that we jhave no control over. Do you think it's still okay for people to have their social security taken away from them--something they have worked for their entire lives?

everything that is part of the national spending is part of the reason for the national debt as it is part of the us budget. and social security is finacned through tax so it is part of the national budged and thus part of the debt issue.

Social security, which comes out of the pockets of Americans when they put aside money from their paychecks--is NOT part of the National Debt. The Nat';s debt is created when billions of dollars are spent on spent on things a president creates, such as the pandemic, tariffs, and huge tax cuts for billionaires that take a large portion of the federal revenue.

You're right I was a bit inaccurate. The USA does not engage in paying off debt. But they have to pay interest for the ever growing debt and the tax they take from your pocket is absolutely used for that.

You're right, we don't. It's a giant slush fund that can be used for whatever the government deems necessary. It is a mandatory tax which removes a person's choice of how to invest for retirement. On top of that, it is not an actual investment because any unused funds are forefitted to the government. It is a scam of the highest magnitude.

What they need to do is pay it out as is as promised and if we want to do something better for future generations then start it at a certain birth year in the future. We need some protection against corporations and trillionaires. They want everything and they've bought and paid off our government. They sold us all out. This is not exclusive to just one party. Both parties have sold us out including our current president. Once we get past being on team blue and red like it's a fandom to a sports team we can't ever cross we will start to be better. We can't pretend politicians are going to save us. They're running us into poverty

I wouldn't be opposed to a pay out. But the people who think SS is a valuable tool will fight tooth and nail to keep it. Because they know it doesn't work if people stop feeding it.

yeah, out of memory... most noticeably, back in 2012 or something, when the Democrats hid in the middle of the night to pass a spending bill of almost a trillion dollars, that was one big scandal so I remember it

That was not a bill done in secret chambers. That's the name of the Healthcare he created under the title the Affordable Healthcare Act, to make healthcare more affordable for everyone. It made sure that low income people would be able to afford health, even when they had pre-existing conditions. Young adults up to age 26 could stay under their parents healthcare coverage. You can't be denied healthcare because of it. We still are under that plan today, because although Trump threatened to do away with it and create his own plan, because he didn't want to give Obama any credit for creating it-- he did nothing else for healthcare.

that whole bill was not created and past in just one move... it took months, if not years

and even once a bill/law is passed and created, there's thousands of deals made... to make it work, and that's the job of lawmakers...

what the congress passed was a "print" the real work takes a whole lot more time, and it was during this time... that the Democrats and others, made it behind doors, late at night... and this is very well known, recorded and reported

but... that's just politics

You are ignoring the fact that this was still not a closed door session done in secret, as Republicans have done. It was pretty much out in the open. The only thing that was done behind closed doors, was when the Republicans refused to approve the bill. What democrats liked about the bill--was that I made healthcare more affordable to people. The Republicans on the other hand, were so concerned with thinking it would ruin the economy among other things--(never mind that now because they are fine with the ruination of it currently by Trump) wanted to implement this instead: You tell me if this was a good idea.
Instead of Obamacare, Republicans proposed alternative solutions rooted in deregulation:
• Allowing insurance companies to sell policies across state lines to increase competition and lower prices.
• Expanding Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) so individuals could save tax-free money for medical care.
• Enacting tort reform (capping medical malpractice lawsuits) to reduce the cost of defensive medicine.
• Utilizing state-run high-risk pools to provide subsidised coverage specifically for individuals with pre-existing conditions without regulating the entire market.

So Nathan, you don't like Obamacare? Would you rather have to buy health insurance now that we have the " Big Beautiful Bill". that has Americans not being able to afford health insurance anymore? Are you happy now that Medicaid and Medicare have taken millions of dollars of cuts off of it and programs for the elderly and poor, schools, Vets etc, in order to afford those billionaires the tax cuts that they want? Let's not forget the millions spent on Trump's golf trips that you pay as well.
