He just said this from the Port of Los Angeles. He was supposed to talk about the highest inflation in over 40 years and the continuing supply chain issues that he has not been able to solve. Instead he is playing the blame game again. He continues to blame high gas prices on the oil companies. Nobody in the crowd asked him why the oil companies did not rip people off when Trump was president. He tries to deflect blame by telling the public that Republicans want to eliminate Social Security and Medicare. To be fair, Republicans are also saying they want to cut Social Security and Medicare. Just not directly. (Remember, in 2000, the budget was running a surplus that could have paid off the national debt by now. Then there were the Bush tax cuts.)
If they cut Medicare and Medicaid the death rates for older people would definitely start to rise. Some older people's only income is from Medicare and some can't afford to even heat their house or afford life providing medications. If you are on insulin it may be life saving. As of Mar 10, 2022 · Per month, insulin vials range from $50 to over $1,000, and a pack of pens may range from $45 to over $600. When some people only get maybe $1500 a month from their social security that is something not anyone can afford.
He wants to take it away and then say it was Republicans, this way they can bring it back and say they undid the damage.
Even I've often said, during a government shutdown, it is stupid that SS stops... it has its own revenue source, trust fund... that should keep on going.
while their are likely some members of congress that wish to defund Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other social programs. would imagine Biden's statement was taking out of context to some degree. because much of the funds that goes to those programs ends up benefiting illegal immigrates instead of their own citizens.
however modern inflation was partly caused by nearly 2 years of lock downs. congress printing trillions of dollars to flood the economy and Biden reversing many of Trumps polices that benefited the average person. by shutting down the key stone pipe line it made natural gas prices go up. by shutting down franking on federal lands and federal waters. it made oil and coal prices go up. currently over half of the power America generations comes from gas, oil and coal. renewable energy sources make up less then a quarter of power generated in some parts of the country. because their focusing on solar and wind mostly instead of mixing in other green energy sources like hydro electric, geothermal and nuclear power.
part of why America doesn't have the funds for social programs that other countries do. is because they have an over inflated military that is used to either police or protect those other countries. plus America sends millions or billions of dollars over seas to other countries yearly to keep their economies going. when those countries should rightfully be paying America for the protection they are offering them instead.
Well, to be fair, some Republicans DO want to cut Social Security and Medicare; it's not like they're held as sacred cows that can't be touched when it comes to budget cutting.
But yes, it's likely most just deflection. Remember that few politicians actually want to HELP the American people in any meaningful way; it's mostly about gathering approval for The Party (whichever it happens to be), and demonizing The Other Party, so as to create more loyalists who consider it little short of treason to vote based on something other than the D or R after a candidate's name. Don't believe me? Look at his OWN voting record on funding Social Security and Medicare- then ask yourself how many other people look that up before deciding whether to believe him or not.

Social security is a safety net provided by the state so you can get back into a proper working career. Republicans would rather you desperately work below minimum wage to fill a gap.
Similar with medical care. If you are hurt or wounded, you want to go to a competent doctor and facility to get better. You don't want to be "shopping around" for some quasi-quack because he's all your insurance can afford
Pretty sure most people in America want Universal Health Care to become a thing along with supporting ideals as such. Even Republicans so this is kinda bullshit. However there are a few republicans who for sure think that Universal Health care is bad along with hating such ideas and wish for Medicare to be only to those who can afford it. But many polls do show that Americans don't like the way their healthcare system works wanting it be more viable for the poorer.
But it's not like anybody wanted biden as a president anyway. It's just a choice that was forced by it been him chosen by the heads to be the front man for the left. And nobody wanted to vote trump this time apart from some hardcore fans.
If we have forced Healthcare with Obama , why would you need Medicare. So, possible Reps would like to cut that , but not Social Security , that would be suicide. I don't believe in SS or any other gov't socialism. The people should invest their money. All Soc Security deductions were just the American people loaning the US gov't money to waste by spending it on more social programs. If they said tomorrow , here is all your money we stole from your checks , but if you take it , you will have nothing at 65, I would take it.
If the government did that a lot of people would just spend the money on expensive vacations and stupid stuff to make them feel better about their pathetic lives. then they would end up on welfare and the government would have to support tham anyway.
The funny thing is years back there was talk about "privatizing" social security which basically would include investing a portion of the Social Security trust fund in the stock market and other investments.
The only "investments" held by the trust fund now is in federal debt.
So as the gap between Social Security monthly payments and current revenues increases. the federal government will have to either borrow more money from the private sector or print more money to cover the current payment deficits.
And it is only going to get worse as the number of people collecting Social Security benefits increases.

In a sense they've already taken there first step to that with the "secure 2.0" act. It triggers automatic enrollment in company sponsored 401k's. Now yes employees CAN opt out of it. But they're banking on most people not even messing with it. This pumps up the market plus while increasing enrollment causes less need for social security benefits down the road. You know how some politicians will say social security was never meant to be a retirement plan. I'm not trying to dispute that. But I can almost guarantee you this is just the first step in closing off social security. I'll bet you anything in the future they start setting stipulations that if you have a 401k over "x" amount that you don't qualify for social security. Or at the very least less benefits. This is the first step in long plan to phase out social security altogether.
It's been a part of the GOPs goals (like the repeal of glass steagal that caused the housing market collapse in 2007) to end all the new deal programs. It's no secret.

Yes because we do want to cut social security and Medicare. Social security will be bankrupt by the end of the 2020s and Medicare along with it. Medicare is so crappy to begin with most retirees have to buy supplemental health insurance because Medicare doesn’t cover anything important.

Biden is very addled on a good day. He's desperate to try to deflect blame for the state of the country any way he can. It bothers him that his approval ratings are terrible and that some of his media honeymoon is over. He actually thinks he's been a good president and isn't being appreciated for that. The reality of course is that he's been a disaster.
When you think about it, under Biden's administration with the inflation and higher energy costs he has already done that. Your dollar does not go as far as it used to. So for those on a fixed income their buying power has diminished much the same as if they made the cuts.

I believe him, except what they have been saying for years is that they want to eliminate these programs, not just cut them, since they think they constitute socialism. The only Socialism they believe in is tax cuts for large corporations that pay no taxes anyway, and for wealthy people who also pay no taxes.
As for gas prices being more expensive that's because the Russian avenue of gas is cut off for countries that used them. Les supply for equal demand means higher prices As for his claims regarding Social Security and Medicare, that's not a new revelation. They've been trying to do it for years.
Biden reads, and says, what his staff prepares for him. During a press conference once, he was asked a question and his answer was "My staff won't let me talk about that."

Cut the need for it by job creation. Republicans dole out social security and medicare like scraps from their liberal elite table to placate the masses.
@goaded those were all the jobs that were lost during covid that are returning now that the economy is stating to open up again. Biden should be ashamed of himself taking credit for that. On his first week in office he singlehandedly killed all the jobs on the Keystone pipeline. These were good paying jobs too, not burger flipping jobs. Anybody who believes Biden somehow created those jobs probably voted for him

He is blaming Russia for the war on Ukraine cause of the high inflation yes he will not get my vote come the year 2024 so let's hope the Democrats get a new candidate to run against him I believe Bernie Sanders could have done a better job.
