I’ve noticed that a lot of younger people are afraid of getting older.
They worry about losing their looks, their energy, their freedom, or the feeling that they still have their whole life ahead of them. I understand that fear, but honestly, I’m not afraid of getting older at all. If anything, I find it exciting. 😊
Maybe that's because I don't see age as something being taken away from us. I see it as something being added to us.
Every year gives us more stories, more experiences, more memories, more wisdom, and hopefully a better understanding of who we are.
You learn not to waste your energy on every argument. You become more comfortable with yourself. You stop needing everyone's approval. You learn which people genuinely matter and which things simply aren't worth stressing over.
And there are things that only time can give you.
The ability to look back and say, “I've been through that, and I made it.” ❤️
Memories of places you've visited, people you've loved, friendships you've built, mistakes you've survived, children you've raised, dreams you've achieved, and moments you never thought you'd experience.
I also think there's something beautiful about becoming the person younger people can learn from. 🌱 Your experiences can become someone else's guidance.
So to everyone here who has already lived through many chapters of life, I hope you realize how blessed that is. There are younger people who would love to have the wisdom, memories, and perspective you have today.
And I'm genuinely curious…
What does getting older actually feel like?
Do you feel wiser? More peaceful? More confident in yourself? Or do you still feel exactly the same person inside, just with more stories? 😄
And for those of us who are younger, what should we stop being afraid of about getting older?
I'd really love to hear from people who have already experienced it. ❤️

For me one of the biggest this about getting older is that in my head and my heart is i still see things through my eyes as when I was 25 or 33
People in there 40s 50s say to me they are getting older and I say what do you mean .. i say maybe on the out side but not on the inside
I guess its different for everyone
But I would love to have the knowledge that I have right now when I was younger
It's kind of like I wish I would have had the internet or the phone right now when I was younger we would all be Geniuses LOL
But you're right you get to look back and look at all the things that I got to experience and that kids nowadays won't even have that opportunity
Are they won't even see it as an opportunity and what they could learn from it
I don't really know any older people and I don't have any in my family except for my uncle he's in his hundreds and just such a wealth of knowledge and experience that I can gain from him I really need to go see him I can tell time is coming shorter and shoulder for him
Yeah it's nice To have a little bit of wisdom that I can share with my kids are my nephews and nieces when they need it or anybody else really
But the thing I would suggest for younger people is experience all the things you want to experience but to the deepest levels there are a lot of things that even to this day I'm still trying to experience trying to understand because there's so much meaning in it and it still makes me curious
Thank you 😊
Since you are still young like I once was, I didn't know how cruel life can be sometimes. And how people can be so mean when they don't have to be.
I don't mean to sound like a negaholic, but there comes a point in an older person's life when it's time to take off the rose colored glasses and see life and people for what is real.
Yes, I have lots of great memories and stories to tell, but I think that I have already told them on GaG.
I didn't expect for my body to turn against me when I was young. I thought that I would always feel good but that's not the case. My immune system turned against me and now it reads healthy parts of my body as invaders and so I am constantly being attacked by my own immune system.
I also wasn't counting on my boyfriend of 6 years to die suddenly 3 years ago. He was younger than me but that doesn't matter I guess.
If a person can continue to escape their own body from turning against them and someone who they love very much doesn't die on them, then perhaps they can live a good life when they are older.
What's cool is retirement, a pension (if you are lucky enough to have one), Social Security, Medicare and, hopefully, savings and assets like a house - things you worked for all your life.
You can focus on doing things that you really want to do.
You start to reflect on the memories you accumulated since childhood. You are grateful for all the things you experienced and all the memories you can look back on. There is a bittersweet sense in knowing that times have changed and you can't go back to when you were with your family and relatives as a child, or the energetic, optimistic, immortal person you were in high school and in your twenties, or to the success you had in your 30s, 40s and 50s.
You develop a sense of calm. You no longer have to compete. You are who you are and you can be you.
You are grateful for the wisdom you have acquired.
I seem to be able to take care of my health and body much better. I can fix it myself rather than relying on external support which largely doesn't work (the doctor).
So I can use my body in a more efficient way. I may not have the superabundance of youth in energy, but I can use my body more effectively.
I always find it funny when I play any tennis or other sports with young people.
They have sweet FA stamina.
I can go on for hours and hours, and just crush them with the ability to keep going and turn the energy up when I need it.
My nephew gave up after one set. He's in his teens. My cousin expended his power in the first set and then he was panting like one of those poorly bred dogs with nose problems, pugs or whatever they are.
What would you single out for yourself, or are you not old enough yet? :)
I just turned 31. One of the things I liked about getting older is that the years of life experience builds up and it'll help you see through people's BS a lot more quickly and easily so you can better protect yourself. I remember being super naive at 21, getting hurt. Another great thing about getting older is... you get a lot more comfortable in life. Rent seems more affordable, comfort in living in my own space rather than with roommates, get to fly on planes 3 times a year- something I would never be able to dream of doing 10 years ago
You lose enough people you love and you start, i don't want want to say "longing" for the other side. But death is a part of life. And you become more accepting of it. I'm more zen about it then i've ever been in my life. I don't look forward to it. God still has work for me here. But i look forward to seeing those i love again. In a world where there is no pain, no sickness, and no suffering. Where God's truth, love and righteousness reigns.
What's beautiful about it is when you're young, time SEEMS infinite. As you get older you see the beauty in the little things. And those things are the things that really matter. I used to view life as something to be won. Now i see the folly of that. You still have to live in this world. But only enough to get along in it. Don not buy what this world is selling. It's only a distraction.
To get older is the ultimate proof of being alive.
Time is an avalanche behind us. The moment you stop moving, you're done.
The beauty... each avalanche comes to an end. That will give me peace and rest.
You become wiser and you care less and less what people think of you.
I agree with you…
I joke sometimes… when people ask me how old I am. “I’m forever 21…”
But I honestly love how much I’ve grown and who I am. I feel like as I get older I only get better… like wine lol
Not a thing according to this forum, you just become a ghost. That's the opinion I'm hearing from women about men in here. Sad but true. I think there's a lot of things, but I've been ripped to shreds.
Don't pay attention to negative people.. there's a whole lot
thank you, at least some people aren't trying to rip the older people to shreds because they want to still be in the dating scene.
Well I don’t argue with women as much as I used to. It’s not worth it but in the long run, they like you so it’s not necessary to argue every time
There is a saying that says
"With age comes wisdom"
I hate getting older because despite getting wiser I've had absolutely nothing in my life which has made me happy and feel I missed out on my entire childhood & young adulthood.
A combination of positive and negative thoughts, more calm more peaceful, less energy, wiser, but seeing yourself as a dimming flame with each year passing by...
Well, if you're getting older you haven't died yet. That's generally a good thing, right?
Lol, every generation has the same insecurities and concerns. They just frame it differently
you can get a senior citizen discount at a lot of places
You life's simple pleasures and permanent things.
Well, it's a lot better than the alternative.
