Because that phrase is just a trick. You refer to an opportunity missed- as a waste of the option. But people dont want to vote "for bad just to keep the worse democrats out"- They should but that is not a waste- i mean The chance is missed but only because it is not important. Like the 'waste" misssd opportunity to pick up a rock in a parking lot. Politics is annoying to most people -especially when news company pretend to be news but are mainly political tools.

The ONLY wasted vote is when it is used to put a waster demicrat in power.

Don't agree. It sends a message you don't trust any of the candidates and your not going to vote out of blind loyalty. A low turn out signals to the winner he doesn't have the mandate of the people.

Think of it this way if there's only a 30% turn out. that means 70% thought both candidates were shit. So In a close count only you've only the support of 16% of the population.

because every federal election... the only votes that make the difference are those from the swing states

It also depends on where you live. I lived in Chicago for forty years, and voting there doesn't really do much, since the local aldermen and the teachers unions essentially decide the elections.

There is no such thing as not voting. If you don't vote for someone specific, you vote indirectly for everyone, including the ones you hate the most.
