Depending on whose stats you use, trucks move from 62 to 75% of all US goods, and that doesn't include residential delivery. Many large buyers have palettes and bulk items delivered to their distribution points by rail after these goods arrive at ports. From the distribution points, most everything goes out by truck.

When Trump took office in Jan, 2025, diesel cost $3.63 a gallon on average As of Oct 3, 2026, diesel is $6.38 on average. That's an average increase of 77%. I repeat, that's an average. In California, prices range from $7.75 to $8.25. In South Carolina, they range from $5.75 to $6.25. Much of that depends on taxes, but I emphasize this because certain dumb ass individuals on here and say " I drove by my local station and it was $5.85 " !! Those individuals will remain unnamed.

Back to the point. In any distribution system where each component operates for profit, the final point of that system will incur the greatest increase and suffer the most impact; that's you and I, the consumers. There were also be collateral damage up the chain that affects us even as distributors long before the consumer area comes into play. This kind of increase is a pure economy killer, up and down the line, except for the very top.

Well the trucks don't disappear.. And if the logistics companies or independent truckers can raise prices (inflation) to compensate for increased fuel prices, yeah they fold in bankruptcy and their creditors (banks) seize their assets. The logistics companies or independent truckers lose all their wealth tied up in all those assets and the banks try to recover some of it to get back the money they are owed but they ultimately suffer losses too trying to sell used trucks into a weak market. That raises the bank's operating costs and lowers their profits which they then cover by raising interest rates and fees (inflation). tRump is a genuine genius. He knows more than all the economists.

After a while you'll have food, medical, parts etc. Basically shortages of everything because everything reaches stores via semi trucks. Price increases will come and that gets passed onto the consumer.
