Why does greed seem to be part of human nature?

Maybe it's a test. What if between artificial intelligence and quantum computing there could be a simple cure for cancer? And what if big pharma didn't want a cure for cancer because they're making bank on the horrific cancer treatments. I couldn't live with myself if I had the cure for cancer, but hid it from the public just to fatten my wallet. But obviously there are people in the world who don't give a shit and will just take the money every time.

I hand out the few cures I know about anytime anyone seems to need one! FUCK THOSE DOCTORS!!! I'm not at all interested in keeping people sick for monetary gain!!!

I think greed comes partly from fear. People want more money, more security, more status, more control, because somewhere in their mind they’re worried about not having enough.

The strange thing is that having more doesn’t always make people feel satisfied. Sometimes it just changes what they consider enough. Someone who was happy with $10,000 might start feeling like they need $100,000, then $1 million.

I don’t think humans are naturally only greedy, though. We’re also capable of generosity, sharing, and sacrifice. A lot probably depends on our upbringing, experiences, environment, and what we learn to value.

For me, the real problem isn't wanting more. It’s when having more becomes more important than other people. That’s when ambition can turn into greed.

It's a cultural issue. Greed is often disguised as this idea that in life you need to have drive and keep doing more to improve your status quo.

we have become a culture of greed. People can be excused for all kinds of things by saying simply "it's only business" . Companies can have 2 bad quarters and then lay off half their employees instead of carrying them until business improved. As a result, employees have no loyalties ro where they work.
