Has anyone here experienced filing bankruptcy?

I am scheduling a free consultation to potentially file for bankruptcy.

I went from being a software developer making $76,000 a year with a bright future to an industry that has been flipped on its head, being reliant on Social Security disability, and working a small part-time job as a nobody security guard making $16.50 an hour. Just because I was at one point able to accommodate the debt with my previous salary doesn't mean the bills don't stop when I am no longer.

I had to do this a few years back. It was absolutely painless and actually at the end of it my credit improved. Since I no longer owed money to anybody. It can be a very advantageous as long as the bankruptcy attorney does a good job and most of them do.

I understand that can be a problem. It's sort of cut and dry process but a lot of attorneys try to charge a lot for it. How much is your attorney trying to charge?

I have a $900/month RV payment where I owe more than its worth, a $335/month car payment, plus we go through $150 in groceries in less than a week. It takes nearly $50 to fill my gas tank in my Honda sedan. $82 a month is deducted from my checking each month for my wife's wedding ring. Another $40 is deducted for one credit card, while over $130 is deducted for another and $19 for another. Then I have medical bills in collections.

I get $1870 a month in SSDI benefits and $350 net a week working security.

Are you living in the RV? If not then you need to sell it.

Also more than $150 per week just for groceries is insane. For just two of you it should be more like 50, and if you're still the fatty like you were before then you should be on a diet anyway.

I am trying to rid the RV, but I owe more than it's worth, and I cannot transfer a title to someone until the entire loan is paid. I don't have the money to make up the loss.

The original plan was to live in it somewhere before I met my wife. She doesn't like the RV, and it is sitting in my parent's driveway deteriorating.

Again, at one point I was making good money as a software developer until the economy tanked and the tech industry sunk.

Right, so you sell the RV and pay the rest out of pocket. Would not be too hard if you're living with your parents and eating rice and beans like you should be. That would save you over $100 per week, which you would put towards the RV
