I'd make fun of anybody named shaniqua.
But that's besides the point. The fact of the matter is, people will find ways to make fun of your name no matter what it is. My name is Solomon Herron, and of my 16 years on this earth I've been called the following:
Salmon
Salamander
Slobber
Solar system
solo-man
salmonella (bacteria)
Solomonster
Salmonella Herion (the drug)- This was what people called me from the day I stepped into middle school, until the day I left.
"Solomon is Herron stuff, he needs hearing aids"- you get it? As in Hearing-Herron.
this kid used to say this to me every F*CKING DAY during my freshman and sophomore years.
So yea, you get the point, everyone's name will be made fun of. But naming her shaniqua is just making it too easy. People don't like ebonic names because they aren't "white" enough.
If you really don't want people bugging out because of her names uniqueness, then name her something like Katherine, Brittney, or Becky. You get the idea.10 Reply

+1 ywhy would it even come up as a question? if she were to run into someone who had low enough standards to make a situation of it, it would only mean that that person has insecurities themselves and puts it off on others. I have a best friend who is a guy with the name Whitney, and another named Dana who is also male.

Yes it's okay and no I wouldn't make fun of her. I'd be surprised for a few seconds then move on. People don't have any control over what their parents name them, so I don't know why your gonna make of them, it's rude and disrespectful. Assuming she has to be black to be named Shaniqua is just stereotyping.

Not funny
a common name used to mock/describe a Black woman from the inner city...this name would include all of the stereotypes: long fake braids, big butt, ghetto voice

why not and I would definitely make fun of her in joking way but people would def make fun of her in a mean way (atleast America) Caucasian people who aren't a walking stereotype are one of the most hated minority in America (it goes for all the races but the caucasians are the most hated espically if black stereotypes are involved
10 ReplyIt's not okay to name anyone "Shaniqua."

+1 yI've met Shaniquas. Nobody's black, in my country. I never knew it was a black name, or that it would be in any way considered strange until I saw people here act appalled... JEEZE LOUIISE
10 ReplyMaybe as a nick name it would be fine.. I knew a white girl named Ebony, but that was her nick name. I think that's like naming a black girl Sarah or Chelsea which would turn heads especially if she's ghetto.
