But what are some positive aspects of life in the past? like the 50s, 60s, 70s.
What do you think was better then, than now?
A couple of seminal works were first published in the 1950s: one comparatively easy reading (The Lord of the Rings), one challenging, even disturbing and grim (The Second Sex).
And whatever ills may have been plaguing society, well, at least the war was over. Crippling neuroses are no fun, to be sure, but getting a bullet in the chest or a grenade fragment in the head doesn't give you much chance for recovery, ever.
There was some good music produced in the 50s, although it took a little while longer for things to really blow open with The Beatles, The Stones, and so on.
The Catcher in the Rye and Catch-22 were both published in the 1950s too. I'm beginning to suspect that a great deal of important literature was written during that decade.
everything cost a nickel
Yeah but you got paid two nickels an hour.

To me, the best thing abou tit is that its a more simple way of life. People were more into partying and having fun. Also it was a more romantic time in the U.S. where people were more after love and the good things in life.
Most women were a hundred times better housewives. Men were men, and feminist nazis were few and far between. Oh, and lots of dancing.
If you were male middle-upper class and white. everything was great back then.
I'd watch Revolutionary Road before saying that.
I'd have to fight in the revolutionary war.
It was Dope :)
