Would you date a girl who lives at home? Is there a stigma attached?

Would you date a girl who is 26-27 who still lives at home? I work a full time job and my parents are kind enough to let me stay while I go to graduate school. I cannot afford to live away from home and pay for graduate school. Would you date a girl who lives at home if she in only living there because of school?

I've dated girls who lived at home with their parents and as a general rule they are spoilt and frequently defective. Honestly, after a certain age you have to wonder WHY they aren't moving out. It often masks very serious personality defects. To be fair, there are serious issues with property in many western nations right now (Especially Dublin, my home city in Ireland). And obviously many could have physical or other handicaps which preclude them from working, or etc. But if these do not apply, after a certain age (say 30+) that excuse wears thin, no matter what your sex is. A girl who lives at home with her parents will often expect you to make most of the effort in a relationship because she has never had to stand on her own two feet. She doesn't understand what life is like in the real world, because she's never had it that hard, and will not understand that making you do 80% of the work is just wrong, and not the way relationships work at all. Her only extended relationship will have been with her parents, who by their nature will provide most things for a child, so the idea of meeting somebody halfway in a relationship (conversation, making jokes, splitting chores, being romantic, sexual, etc.) will not be something she will understand. As well as this, they usually possess poor empathy (I remember a conversation with my ex, trying to explain the meaning of the world 'Child abuse' - she just couldn't get the concept!) And they are normally not the sharpest tools in the box. Best to avoid these types at all costs, or you will waste vast quantities of time and effort.

Not a problem. I'm very much aware of strange circumstances.

If a guy is 35 and taking care of his invalid parents, has a job, lives fairly independently, that's a positive. If a guy is 35, barely graduated high school, never did college, jumps from crummy job to crummy job because he gets into constant fights, is always late, etc, goes home and plays video games all night, well, that's unattractive, just as if a girl did that.

I'm older and living at home (though not 35). I have a college degree (BFA) from a good school, work hard at what I do, but haven't been able to find anything that works for me.

One of my closest friends has 2-3 bachelor's degrees, a Masters in business, and is working at a part time job that barely pays minimum wage. This is all he's been able to find.

I'm a person who tries to pay attention to extenuating circumstances. Not many people do, but there are a few.

I don't know where you live But I would say in Brazil your situation is quite common, me and all My friends including the guys live with our parents, people only move out when they marry in Most cases but you are expecting to happen before 30... Sometimes I wonder If that's why people end Up marrying here more than US for example...

I am moving out because I will do My Master in another country but I will live in a student house Even though I am quite old for that its what I can afford near college...

I defo would! I'm in that age group and live at home. I can afford to move out, I own my own company but I just really like living at home. My folks are great, we get along really well, it's close to my office and instead of paying rent and utilities, I just help out with bills around the house and save the rest of my money or allocate it elsewhere. Also, it's quite common in Asia to live at home until you want to start a family of your own. Another reason is, my folks are getting older and I like being able to take care of them too, drive them around if they need it or run errands for them so they aren't standing in line or waiting in places, buy their meds for them etc. There is a stigma about it and it's bollocks. I wouldn't look down on anyone living at home as long as they're employed or studying or doing something productive with their lives instead of just leeching. I wish girls understood this too.

26-27? :P It's fine, as a girl, it might even be considered kinda cute that they live at home. Plus in my case I love drinking with gf's dads so it would be convenient. :P I don't think it's viewed as negatively as with guys. Plus there are plenty of guys your age who still do it.

as long as she is okay with me living with my parents as well before you ask yes I still live with my parents and I don't have any jobs I don't own a car I don't have have a driver's ID that's all I can tell you. You don't state whether you are working towards those things. I.e. driving license, jobs, college. If you are just a bum then your situation is totally different. Fact. Totally unattractive to both sexes

@swagger my mom is overprotective of me that's why my mom won't let me get a job or move out and my mom is worry about my SSI checks and my SSI benefits yes my mom is collecting SSI checks to use and she worry about the SSI's benefits I might go college if only if I safe enough money what ever happens happen I suppose

Nope doesn't bother me. I agree with some people here guys have that stigma. I'm only 21 and people ask me all the time why haven't I moved out yet. I go to school full time and have a pretty good job but it's not enough to pay rent and all my other bills. When I finish school I'll move out.

It's fine if women still live at home as long as they're doing something with their lives. If you're living at home because you can't hold down a job and dropped out of college that's very unattractive, though. There needs to be privacy, though. Hopefully any guy that goes out with you has his own place.

The most admirable quality in a women to me is having goals and working to achieve them. Being able to stay at home while you work towards that is great. So to sum it all up yes I would date a girl in that situation.

It is a pain. Intrusive parents and if I myself don't have my own private and convenient space then nowhere to go.

Its not a total deal breaker but definitely a big negative.
